Much appreciated. I'm going to unfollow this thread now, it still seems I only see one notification about it, so by unfollowing maybe I can catch a glimpse of the elusive "mention notification"...

I think that if you're not wathcing, @Tsaukpaetra, you will see a notification for each post that mentions you.
So that means watching actually decreases the notification spam
