Converting one WTF into another WTF.

    Convert Fortran to Visual Basic?

I'm surprised they need a programmer for this.  Couldn't they just find a fortran-to-vb-conversion utility?

  •  How is this exactly a WTF, they're just migrating from a dying language to a seemingly poor choice of language... And em... using a fortran-to-vb converter would be TRWTF.

Unless they're actually migrating to VB.NET, then they're migrating from one dying language to another dying language.

  • It might not be a good job, but apparently you get to work at Pratt & Whitney's Jupiter location.

    (1) If it is Fortran 77 and you just want to modernize it, why not convert it from FORTRAN 77 to modern Fortran 90?

     (2) "The Fortran is proprietary and will require a background check" -- The Fortran needs a background check?

     (3) If it is FORTRAN 90 and they want it in Visual Basic for some other reason (to add a GUI?) then Fortran 90 is pretty similar to BASIC (if old things like ternary IF are not used) then it probably can be done automatically.

    (4) Visual Basic sucks

Enough with the VB bashing, people!

  •  Perhaps the OP was referring to this - "Only a visit to the facility is needed unless you require our software - in which case you can work on site."

How exactly can you convert their software into VB without access to it?

Have you found one you'd trust to migrate a critical business system without any sort of developer oversight? Please share ...

Great news. We need a new vaccuum cleaner. Are you implying I could use VB for the task? That would sure be handy, especially if I can record vacuuming macros ...
