So, I need a new e-cig mod...
-
So, my mod decided to give up the ghost, and since I know there are people who use these around here I might as well ask. I'm looking for something
- mid-range on the price side
- not exclusively passthrough, if it can do passthrough it's not bad as an option, but I probably won't use it as such
- swappable battery, 18650 preferred but I'm flexible on that as long as it's something easily obtainable
- easy to buy coils for online if I can't get them locally
- precise tweaking of power output and such not necessary, though if I can't test it first in a local shop I probably will want something I can tweak after the fact
- easy to maintain and buy coils for, I have no interest in rebuilding them myself or anything
So... suggestions?

Either quit smoking or smoke real cigarettes but stop looking like a twat.

I have, for 10 years. Not going back.

In this category, yes.

@Onyx senseless violins? And gratuitous sax?
-
@Anonymouse No... but I could go for that, too.

No thanks I'm more of a cello person

I prefer gratuitous sex anyway

I'm still using the Sigelei 30W mod (http://www.juiceshop.co.uk/sigelei-30w-mod as an example, ignore the ludicrous price). Tried a couple of others but I like it the best. Plus 30W is much more than enough for me.
Edit: Saw you mention coils. If you like clearomisers then the Kanger Protank is my current favorite. No leaks, no dry burns just works perfectly. Unlike the leaky Aspire disaster I had briefly.
-
@Cursorkeys can't test that one locally, but added to the list of considered devices. Cheers.
@Cursorkeys said in So, I need a new e-cig mod...:

My old mod didn't allow for much testing there so I have no strong opinion there yet.

leaky Aspire
/me jots down a note about Aspires potentially being crap. Just like their laptop namesakes, I guess.

@Cursorkeys said in So, I need a new e-cig mod...:

YMMV I guess. I've never had a leaky or otherwise malfunctioning Aspire - they just have a propensity to break when dropped, so I've gone through like five or six of them already. Kanger's Subtank, on the other hand, was leaking a quarter of the tank overnight.
Their Subox Mini mod is quite okay, though. I keep an ELeaf Melo 2 tank on it, and it works just fine, the heating elements are also quite standard from what I know (the same ones work with both).
Mind that Subox can't go below 0,5 ohm, though, so no insane 0,1ohm/50W clouds of smoke for you.

I'm fine with that given the environment where I use it. Huge clouds aren't really something I lose sleep about, and the lack of them might actually be preferable.

Most likely then, I had a Nautilus and a Nautilus Mini and both went in the bin because they leaked and wicked terribly. The styling on the Nautilus what what drew me to it, shame I got a bad one.
I'm a big fan of the Protank mostly because of the cavernous tank, I always manage to get sticky fingers when refilling so the less often I have to do it the better.

Melo 2 is good in that nothing has to be unscrewed to be refilled - you just twist a ring at the top, pour liquid into a hole and twist it back to closed position.
By the way:

Isn't there pretty much no choice in that matter anyway? Those fiber-filled cartridges are thankfully long gone for the most part, and pretty much everything I see these days are either basic clearomizers, or "atomizers" (which AFAIK only differ by having an option to get an RBA base and roll your own coils, although I personally just buy pre-made ones).

Cheers, I'll take a look at that.

I've always understood atomizers (when specified like that as the only term, not as an RBA) to be drippers, i.e. there is no tank/fluid storage other than the wick and you literally drip more fluid in the top manually to keep the wick wet.
My Protank is sold as a clearomizer but has a rebuildable atomizer in it as standard (you can use the pre-built attys or the RBA).
I think the terminology is a bit blurry...
Edit: Around here drippers seem to be really popular, I think it looks like way too much hassle compared to a tank so I've never tried one.

Around here drippers seem to be really popular,
Had this kinda thing once:
I remember they used to be high wizardry level stuff back in the days (had a cheap one, it was quite decent compared to the early clearomizers and fiber-filled carts, although not overflowing the wick was damn impossible).
You could also buy a "cartridge" (basically a fiber-filled cart without a heater and pre-soaked in liquid) to stick on top of it and turn it into a really bad cartomizer, but I haven't once managed to make it work properly.
Surprised those things are still in use - I've thought all that stuff ended up in the wastebasket of history by the time clearomizers stopped sucking so badly (somewhere around CE4's introduction, I guess). Nowadays pretty much everyone either has a box mod and one of those RBA-enhancable clearomizers, or a pen and a slim CE-something clear.

I've had good luck with a Innokin Technologies MVP20W + Nautilus steel tanks. Had it for over a year and its pretty much indestructable. If you have problems with getting a good vape, make sure you disassemble the tank, wash it, and then use a paper towel to get in the creave where the coil goes. Gunk gets down there and prevents it from vaping right.

@Onyx I've only ever used the one I have now, and it's got a built-in batter rechargeable via microUSB. My mom has one of these which has suited her well for quite some time, though.

Seem to be the cool thing now around here. We have two vape shop/lounges now in my sleepy, genteel little town, quite amazing.
I started with a Joyetech one, an EGO-T. Helped me kick fags instantly the first time I quit. That was when you had to import them yourself to the UK and few had heard of them. Could use them everywhere then, even on flights which was great.

A xenolinguaphile! They warned me about you kind of people
Back on topic... I have been thinking about trying one of the temperature-controlled mods next, maybe this one:https://www.vampirevape.co.uk/sigelei-150w-temperature-control-mod.html
But I kind of like having a cylindrical mod, it fits very well in the pocket with my wallet and keys. A box mod might be too bulky.

That one's at least rounded on one side, so it wouldn't poke out too far if you put it in with your keys and wallet up against the squared side. But then the screen might get scratched by your keys, and wallet, if that's also metal.

My mom has one of these
Got the first eVic and... meh. It only goes up to 11W, anything lower than 1 ohm is detected as a short circuit, and the big draw of being able to plug it to your PC and extract your vaping data is a gimmick I've forgotten about in like a week.
On the plus side, though, it's survived numerous falls and five or six clearomizers. The worst thing that happened to it is that the screen was a little glitchy for a few days.
-
Well, I'm learning a bunch of terminology here. Yay for not looking this shit up in English before.
@Fox said in So, I need a new e-cig mod...:
one of these
That I can actually test in a store here. Should also work with my existing tank which may or may not be a plus (it's nice to have a spare, but the air flow adjustment ring is made in a way not to be somewhere you can fiddle with it so it's pretty easy to turn on accident).
@Cursorkeys said in So, I need a new e-cig mod...:
But I kind of like having a cylindrical mod
I'm kinda angling for one this time as well, though it's not a determining factor.

So, updates... my current mod actually works still, turns out that if the battery voltage goes under
$LIMIT
it also locks the battery, so even after recharging you have to unlock it. Since there's no display on the thing I didn't realize this initially.I still want the upgrade though. I'm most likely shooting for this:
http://www.smoant.com/knight-v1-60w-temperature-control-tc-stealth-vaping-pocket-mod/index.html
ĀOne of the main factors there is the size, I want something that fits in my pocket relatively easily, I don't want to lug a 20cm monstrosity in my pants (INB4 at least you'll have one, and such).
I'm looking into a top-loading tank to go with it so I can refill easily, probably this:
Thoughts, anyone?
