Adobe Flash Memory for the Apple IPhone

    Not sure if this was sarcasm from you or what, but by The Mug is how we show our displeasure with a thread around here.  However, this probably isn't completely mug-worthy, so I'll nominate you for The Half-Mug instead.  To me the mistake in the article is obviously some kind of editing error that happened when a non-technical person was asked to work pieces of existing articles into this one.  I guess it could actually be that the writer had no clue what they were talking about, but that doesn't seem very likely.

    I should indeed have quoted from the article to avoid every one having to go through it. bstorer was so kind to post the correct quote, which I do think is WTF-worthy.

    These half-mugs look great btw and I accept it with pleasure for my first post ever on this forum. My future posts will be better.

    A half-mug cut vertically could still be used to hold liquids, if held at the right angle. So can a Klein stein, even if the decal says 0.00 (I know, I have one. I also have two half-Klein-bottles and even they could hold liquids) so if you want a mug that is unable to contain any liquids, bstorer's is the best idea.

    A true Klein bottle would be unable to hold any liquids. Unfortunately those are hard to get hold of, what with them being 4-dimensional 'n all.

  • @homsar said:

    Well, it doesn't hold the liquid inside the Klein bottle, or rather, it does, but only in the sense that the entire universe is inside the Klein bottle. but it does manage to hold liquid in one place, and I think the same would be true in four dimensions, especially considering that in four dimensions it would actually have one fewer hole. Just like how a properly shaped Möbius strip in three dimensions can still be used to hold a bunch of sticks together (or, in my case, hold two halves of a Klein bottle together.)

    Do you need all jokes spelled out for you, or just the subtle ones?

    Perhaps OP thought the WTF of someone mistaking "flash memory" for something-to-do-with-Adobe-Flash would be so obvious that it didn't need explaining.

    @DaveK said:

    Obviously it was added as an afterthought, even though it was right in the middle of a sentence describing the lack of context.  I prefer my afterthoughts be middlethoughts.

    Wow, have you never realised that, thanks to the magic of the cursor arrow key, it's possible to write out of order in a post?  You can go backward and forward editing it?  That makes it pretty easy to go and put afterthoughts in the middle of your text, yes.

    Look, I clearly haven't been plain enough: I'm calling shenanigans on your mugging.  You deliberately failed to get the joke because you're so keen to award the mug that your preconceptions override the evidence of your senses and prevent you from applying common sense and your understanding of plain ordinary English language.

    I have already commented on your inability to spot the very very obvious.  This is not some "minor editing mistake", this is a massive conceptual error by a person writing about a field they are ignorant of and flailing around way out of their depth.

    Morb would know, since he actually cares about the forums.

    You rarely read the actual thread and instead just insert your 'humor'.

    This is indeed not a minor editing mistake. It is the basis of some wild conclusions in the article, published on a reputed website. But seriously, you shouldn't start a flame war over this... I personally thought it was funny but I don't except others to feel the same way.

  • Heh. This "Adobe Flash Memory" reminds me of the heyday of the Iomega ZIP drive/cartridges. Remember those?

    I had a lot of friends that thought that somehow those cartridges had > 100Mb capacity, because they stored all your files in ZIP (as in PK-ZIP) format. Oops!

    TRWTF is that most people call flash memory "USB memory", up to the point that a local ISP is selling the "virtual USB" service which is actually something more akin to "online storage" service... you know, like Xdrive.

    What sarcasm did I miss?  I merely posted the relevent section of the massive article so everybody didn't have to go and search for it themselves.  I also pointed out that I feel it is most likely an editing mistake and not a big WTF.  You fucktards are the one who keep insisting I didn't "get it" when I clearly understood all along what the problem is.

    Why? The OP could not have been more deserving.

    A tech analyst who doesn't know the difference between flash and Flash qualifies as a WTF under the "gross incompetence" category.  This guy has been writing for years, for people like CNET and Z-D, it is astonishing that he can make such a fundamental category error.

    @MasterPlanSoftware said:

    Considering I've been here longer than you and your main contribution has been two forty-plus page kook-bashing flame threads plus endless cut'n'pasted "don't quote the whole OP" reminders, I think you're in no position to criticise.  Taking a few weeks off doesn't make me any less of a "regular" than anyone else, but I do sometimes have more important things to do in my life than spend time posting on the forums.

    It comes as no surprise to me that you have a hard time detecting humour.  You oscillate wildly between po-faced FAQ-thumper and foul-mouthed flame warrior, which is indicative of your tendency to see the joke much better when it's you dishing it out than when it's anyone else.

    @DaveK said:
