So, as it happens sometimes, I wanted to do some programming for my own amusement on a Friday evening.
It's sad perhaps, but that's just how pathetic I am.I fired up VS2015 and was just about to start coding , when a yellow flag caught my attention. VS2015 Update 2 is available. As drinking beer and watching 10-15 youtube videos about best guitar solos, while my VS gets 'even better'
sounded really good, I went for it.Presented with a treeview of components to install I unchecked stuff that I don't care about, which left less than a half
selected. I really don't care about Android or OSX, and hopefully will never write a line of C++ again in my life.
Installation took forever, as always, and beer reserves became worryingly small. Finally I was graced with setup summary dialog.Installation of every component I unchecked failed. As well as installation of Visual Studio Graphics Analyzer, which
I don't remember seeing on the component list.
Last three entries are about failed installation of VS Post-Clean Tool, VS Enterprise 2015 and VS Preparation. Can you guess what happens when I click the large LAUNCH button? (no rewards for correct answer)

@loopback0
If you mean my feelings, then yes.
-
@loopback0 Strictly, that comes a bit later. LAUNCH is just this:

Could not load file or assembly ‘System.Collections.Immutable, Version=1.1.36.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a’ or one of its dependencies. The located assembly’s manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)]?
Or probably the same for devenv.exe itself.

@MrL Your computer said "FUCK YOU" and rebooted.

@Tsaukpaetra Modular programming: do you use it, Microsoft?

I would like to think they think so.

Only if you assume the launch was successful.

They do.
Just not very well.

Didn't we already have a flamewar about that in some other thread?

Nothing that fancy. Just 'Install operation did not finish successfully. Please reinstall or repair Visual Studio'.
As a bonus, now I have two 'Visual Studio Community 2015' entries in Programs and Features and I can't do anything with them, as apparently I don't have sufficient privileges.

No, that happens only when I go to grab a cup of tea and leave Windows on its own for 2 minutes.

If you upgrade, it should only tick the boxes that were ticked when you first installed everything, meaning you only install new versions of things you already have. TBH I am not even sure why it allows you to untick things, as not upgrading everything together sounds like a bad idea...
