nodeBB: Is it by design that you get logged off on one PC when you log onto another? And can we stop that?
-
Fucking annoying - whenever I log into tdwtf from another machine, my previous session is killed.
Is there a button in the demigod page marked "Do stupid stuff nobody asked for, in the name of sekurity"? And can it be set to off?

E_NO_REPRO
But I've seen other people report that - is this a bug?

I've never noticed it do that, but it does seem to terminate some sessions seemingly at random.
-
@skotl I don't see any sort of setting like that in the admin panel.

I typically blame it on a forum update...

Actually - I can see that doing it, and that does seem to happen on an almost daily basis.
Is E_NO_REPRO confirmed by others?

It's not even close to that consistent.

One of my sessions is 2 months old...
-
@loopback0 Huh - that's not it, then.
Wait one. Going downstairs to try on the laptop...
-
@skotl How do you login? Username / password?
-
My browser sessions haven't expired.
-
@skotl Well, slap me with a slimey kipper. E_NO_REPRO for me, too.
OK folks, stand down - whatever's splatting the sessions isn't logging into another machine...

Yup - fed by LastPass, but that shouldn't make a difference.

I'm not familiar with the details of the authentication systems in NodeBB, but if you were signing on using google or github or whatever I could see that possibly making a difference.
-
@boomzilla Nah - firmly rooted in the early 2000s, me...
-
@skotl Oh good, someone who doesn't demand 15 web frameworks before they begin
-
I thought one of the mods/devs said that the session details were being held in some NoSQL memory-only cache of limited size, so whenever it runs out of space, the sessions with the oldest last access date get killed. So sessions that haven't loaded the forum in a while may just dissappear. And "in a while" could be anywhere from a few hours to weeks, depending on traffic level, how much memory that thing has, and how many virgins have been sacrificed to the Javascript gods lately.

E_REPRO (with Google signin).
Discourse never did that.

I was kicked out fairly frequently when I was switching between two different machines about two weeks ago (i.e., it seemed like only one of them would remain logged-in). So, it feels like it might be related to logging on on different machines, but then again, feeling != evidence.

That is a feature of IPBoard though
