−10 donuts

I play The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which currently has a wild west event. The other day, when checking if I’d saved enough tokens for the first item, I got this screen:
Not only did I have more than enough tokens already without the game telling me about the item like it normally does, but the progress bar had overrun the space it’s supposed to be in and the pink button to finish the task showed a cost of −10 donuts (for those unfamiliar with the game, that’s the special currency used to hurry tasks along).
“Cool,” thought I, “maybe I can get ten donuts for free.” Unfortunately, when I tapped the button it instead popped up a window telling me I didn’t have enough donuts to complete the task, would I like to spend real money to buy some? Not sure what comparison went wrong there, but it’s clear the game doesn’t expect to be showing negative costs.

@Gurth I remember some crappy football manager game where I managed to win every single match, so at the end of season I managed to score 132 points. I got the last place in the table and was dropped to lower league.

Yeah? I only know of one. Maybe this is a dumb attempt at referencing handegg, my country's favorite sport.
-
@Gąska wait, signed byte instead of a signed int? They had to go out of their way to get that wrong!

He's talking about fake handegg. The one that had to be distinguished by calling it "association handegg", and then they tried to pretend it's the real handegg.

The one with the round balls.
As the senator said to the bathroom attendant.

The funniest thing is that in all the screens, my 132 points showed properly - only the standings were wrong.

I thought I was the only one who still played that game.

Is the ball 1 foot long or do you kick it with a foot?

Well, they do have this thing called a "kickoff".

Now I feel bad about shattering your illusion that EA kept adding new content just for you …

Well, they're most certainly not adding it for me, since I'm not one of the people who spend money on donuts. But since they're basically running out of content and characters, I feel like the game is slowly dying.

Europe uses SI - the ball is 1 meter long!
Edit: and wide. And tall. It's a ball after all.

You just said you play it, so they must be adding it for you.
OTOH, though, if “has ever spent money on donuts” is the qualification to be considered EA’s target audience, then I guess I’m not either. Yes, despite having 443 of the things in the screenshot above, plus at least that many spent …
-
@Gurth In EA's eyes, that probably makes you a despicable freeloader.
-
@PleegWat The despicable freeloaders are those who use their phones without installing EA's
money-spinning opportunitiesapps. The ones who have installed are the fish on the line…
-
@dkf I don't use EA's "free" to play stuff. For what I've heard they've made it borderline impossible to actively use without paying.

I used to have one of the Bejeweled variants. It was OK except for the advertising, as I wasn't interested in linking it to any social media accounts. Uninstalled eventually because I wanted the space for something else (I forget what ).

Oh, so you've heard about Dungeon Keeper.

Eh, I got -44 motors! Multiple times!
I'd say they are just the kind that spins the wrong way, but they also seem to have negative mass and volume so...

I don’t know about any of their other games, but this one is easy enough. Unless you insist on having the “premium” items (to show off to your friends, I suppose) and can’t save to save your life.

More annoying is that if you paid for Bejeweled from Whoeveroriginallyreleasedit, and you now reinstall it, it thinks you haven’t paid and so gives you the bloody ads anyway.

Cool, keep them to help you carry more real stuff. Just be careful of matter-antimatter explosions.
-
@Luhmann Is that a French flag on top, or was this image taken in particularly bad light?
-
@PleegWat
Bad light ... or someone urinated on the white part of a French flag and hung it out to dry

Both Tapped Out and PvZ 2 can be played without paying.

If you actually read the whole sentence, it says that the use of the image cannot be commercial or political, not the entire website.

@ben_lubar I mentioned it to poke fun at the Atomium’s reputation for being rather zealous in getting images of the thing removed. I’ve seen TV reports where they showed a model Atomium instead of the real thing because of this.
