Important news from your doctor!
-
Ugh. Motherfuckers.
So, my kids' doctors use FollowMyHealth.com, so I can see stuff like their records, etc, on line. Pretty cool. Of course, you can't send out medical information in emails, so when there's something there, you get an email that says something like:
Hello BoomzillaDottir, Your Doctor has sent an important news bulletin to your FollowMyHealth® account. Please log in to your account to view the bulletin. Please sign in to view this secure message Regards, The FollowMyHealth® Patient Portal Team
Now, I know this is going to be some bullshit, but maybe it's actually important. Doctors! Health! You never know!
So I log in...which includes some bullshit popup thing that I need to summon before keepass can enter my info (no, they don't let your browser remember). And what do I see?
What's new at Your Doctor:
blah blah blah
blah blah blah
blah blah blahFuck. And of course there's no way to reply when I read it. I have to switch over to my daughter's account, go to her inbox and compose a new message to a specific doctor.
They do this same shit when it snows or something. YOU CAN SEND AN EMAIL GIVING OUT MODIFIED OFFICE HOURS YOU ASSHOLES.
-
@boomzilla My doctors have a similar system, only, they also have the additional requirement that my pain psychologist, being a psychiatric professional, doesn't get her notes included in the patient records shown to the patient (which is also bullshit, but whatever.)
The way they implemented this? She's blacklisted from showing up in the system AT ALL. No appointment history, no appointment requests or online scheduling, no "contact your doctor". No evidence I ever saw her except on my bills. WTF.

Hm. It's not often you literally see an old man yell at a Cloud.

This. SO MUCH THIS! FUCK the healthcare industry. It is run by idiots. I have the exact same issues with my healthcare provider's "secure" e-mails.

Mrs nearly choked reading that. Also, while writing I was imagining something more like this (which doesn't really contradict what you said, either):
-
@Vaire You work in IT. What's your incentive to work in healthcare?
...
None. There is none.
Healthcare is like Public Schools when it comes to IT hiring, they only get the people too incompetent to work literally anywhere else.

I place most of the blame on the bullshit in the healthcare IT set, squarely on the management calling the shots. I am sure the healthcare industry has competent people in it, same as elsewhere.
-
@Vaire Only if you move into the periphery of companies like mine, who provide B2B services to the healthcare industry without actually being a healthcare provider or insurance company.
And even then we're at constant risk of being bought by, say, Premera and having our effective processes turned into typical insurance company bullshit.
-
@blakeyrat Well, I am not going to argue that, as I am sure you are right. But still, I would assume even with the insurance people and companies, there are SOME competent people there, they just aren't being allowed to fix all the bullshit.
-
@Vaire Based on my experience as a software developer at an insurance company, no developers working for them are allowed to fix anything at all. There was so much bureaucracy it strangled all action.
-
@blakeyrat Which supports my point that it is management to blame, not ALL of the devs (I am sure SOME of them are indeed pants-on-head-retarded) ^_-
-
@Vaire It's both, because the management drives away the quality developers and they have no mechanism left to hire any. A team of idiots isn't going to hire a rockstar. The rockstar will just make them look bad. So even if by some miracle management figured shit out, the problem still feeds on itself.
-
@blakeyrat Quit depressing me, you're making me sad :(

Perhaps you should see a doctor about that.
