Electronic hunger ants

  • maybe not much of a wtf after you've read the whole thing, but here are some snippets:

...billions of tiny reddish-brown ants have arrived onshore from a cargo ship and are hell-bent on eating anything electronic...

... Having ruined pumps at a sewage facility, the ants are now marching towards Nasa’s Johnson Space Centre and William P. Hobby airport, Houston, putting state officials in a panic. “They’re itty-bitty things, and they’re just running everywhere,” said Patsy Morphew, a resident of Pearland, on the Gulf Coast...

  • I had the pleasure of being at the performance Fred Small recorded for his "Everything Possible" album way back in the early 90's.  One of the songs he did was "Hot Frogs On The Loose" which was inspired by a similar newspaper article (he talks about it in detail in the intro to the song).  This one's about frogs that live in a radioactive pond near some nuke plant in Tennessee.  The article is a semi-hysterical yellow journalism piece about how they got loose and are supposedly roaming the countryside.  In the song intro, Fred realized humorously that the article was a couple of years old and that therefore the frogs might be approaching Massachusetts any day now, and so he decided that he'd write a song as a public service announcement to warn us all about it.

It was hilarious - there's a spot in the song where the frogs make a "gluck gluck" noise and the terrified populous scream in terror.  He divided the audience in half to have us participate.  I was a terrified populous ...

Anyway, reading the above article, I can't help but think that maybe Fred's services are needed again ...

I wish I had the pleasure of never reading that...

You got me! OP had a halfway decent post, interesting article, and was responded to with a post that made quite a few people go WTF??

But obviously I am a troll for pointing it out.

    Find something to do.
