A minor hiccup from a Samsung DVD player and, err, Netflix
-
This is a company house. It has three bedrooms, an exercise bike, unlimited expenses and a Netflix subscription.
This message popped up tonight on the DVD player and the only reason this might be noteworthy is that I have no idea why a DVD player should be a Netflix host. Client. Whatever.
If I could be arsed, I would go look up the list of vulnerabilities in Tomcat 7.0.59, but I can't be arsed.

A few bad exploits, but probably not important when running only one Web service, with no administration.
Why does your company have a house?

Why does your company have a house?Cos intergalactic headquarters is in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the original (platform) team is in Utah. The CxOs (I'm CTO) rotate in and out of Utah (desperately trying to sync our schedules so we're not in the same place at the same time!) and a company house is the most efficient / cost-effective way to do that.

Unlimited expense? That's hookers and blow territory.
Fucking hell my phone auto completed that sentence.

What's "a company house"? A company of what? Do you mean a guest house? Like a house you use when you have company over?

The company literally owns the house. It's cheaper than putting people in hotels when they stay over plus we're here for weeks at a time, so staying in a hotel gets old.
I actually had another company house, three jobs ago, where two of us shared a house that the company rented. With that gig I got to go home at the weekends, tho, as the Atlantic wasn't in the way.

@skotl I've love to be a rich motherfuck who'd just casually drop the term "company house" as if everybody has 4 of them. "What? You don't know that term? It's all over the Robb Report!" Fuck rich people.

Hardly. I just happen to have worked for companies with international operations, who have beancounters smart enough to realise that not spending $200 a night on hotels, and investing in a property that's an asset on the books is a good move. I don't own the house...
How much do I care whether you get business travel or not, or whether you have to stay in a million different hotels? This much ---> 0.0

Oh what a shocker, a rich fuck doesn't give a shit about the 99%. You have surprised me, I am having a heart attack and my hair has turned white and all of those things that stereotypically happens when a person is greatly surprised.
-
@blakeyrat I'm not rich, but then I'm also not perturbed by your rants as I've been here long enough to know they're largely petty and pointless.
Knock yourself out
-
Wow @blakeyrat, you seem a little more dense than normal, might want to check to see if your throttle pedal is stuck or something...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I believe he said he lives in Washington. I think he could use this website

When did @blakeyrat become @bernierat?
-
@blakeyrat You've heard of the term "company car", right? It shouldn't be hard to extrapolate. Maybe next we'll be hearing about your "company refrigerator" or your "company kitchen sink" that you just casually keep in the break room.

You keep a company car in the break room?
-
@dkf Ours is broken half the time, does that count?

Did you just manage to insult both blakey and Bernie supporters at the same time?

Surely only if it's a break, no? A coupé would be silly.

I certainly hope so!

Technically, this apps are web pages. What I find strange is that, in general, Samsung apps are packaged and only do API calls, but I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung allowed Netflix to use a hosting model. Even more strange is that Netflix allows this messages to popup when they're really easy to customize, redirect, etc.

One of my wife and I's favorite jokes about marriage goes something like this:
wife says something pithy
Me: "Hey now, don't get lippy. We are married. I own you."
Wife: "Only in Utah, and we don't live in Utah."
You know you have a good marriage when you can make such blatantly misogynistic jokes and she doesn't get pissy.

Do let us know when the divorce has gone through so we can refer you back to this post.

No. Conversations with my car usually start with, "Listen here, cunt..."
-

No.
Oh. Well, do carry on then. :)

How is the company paying for accommodation when working away from home make him "rich people"? If anything it's the opposite because they are saving money.
Growing up I lived in "bank houses" - my Dad was an accountant and later manager of a bank. Effectively all it meant was cheap rent to us, someone else in this thread mentioned the advantages to the company. It also meant it was easier to entice employees out to towns in the middle of nowhere, though in the 1990s they stopped having that problem!

@Zemm but he is a CTO, anything that starts with a C means a lot of money, whatever a CTO is.

I'm only envious if he found a low effort way to get there. I wouldn't put the amount of work my manager does for his money, much less the higher ups. I like doing things that aren't work.

Chief Techn((ology)|(ical)) Officer. As I understand it, a CTO is responsible for the development of new technologies in a company and is most often seen in companies which produce tech related goods or services.
As for "lots of money", tell that to our COO who is trying to find a new CIO for $70k-80k. If he fills the position before I exit this summer, I'll be getting paid more than my boss.
-
@abarker You should get him a top hat and monocle more appropriate for a classy rich guy
