@Fox Whatever, point is I'm pretty sure Gamera could take her. Maybe not 60s Gamera, but certainly 90s Gamera.
-
@blakeyrat I dunno, the fact that she is lithe and agile and can use those traits with deadly precision to eliminate stronger, heavier, larger foes is kind of her thing.

I'm having a hard time figuring out which category this one fits into: knowing scam, people who don't understand what they're doing, or stupid idea

EDIT:
Fire Fighter Technology has not made any significant improvements in the last 100 years.

Yes I am. Even with hundreds of tabs open, FF still only uses maybe 2 gigs of ram. And I can keep track of how much ram it's using easily. And it only uses that ram when FF is actually running. I've had Chrome use over a gig of ram for a dozen tabs, and then half of it was still used after I "closed" Chrome.

No, but I have two sticks of DDR1 256 Mb Ram!

This kickstarter is the standard "free energy" BS, but I love how the English degrades 2-3 steps when confronted about the flexible funding:
Q: What is the output voltage of MAGMOV?
A: MAGMOV has 2 different output voltage 120V and 230V . You can select the required output voltage by using βOUTPUT VOLTAGE SELECTORβ .
Q: Why flexible goal?
A: We are a company specialized in design and manufacture of the new technologies and different devices. And this campaign help us to produce faster and easier , so we can focus just to produce the future products .Regarding flexible goal ,No matter the fund raise be succeed or not .
-
Q: How MAGMOV does works?
A: MAGMOV uses the Magnetic Fields .
Of course. The Magnetic Fields. How did nobody work that out hundreds of years ago?
-
@Tsaukpaetra
I only have one stick ... I use it as a key ring
-
@Jaloopa I love how they don't even attempt to give any more explanation. No complicated patent diagrams or claims of having uncovered a conspiracy from the Illuminati. Just attach the Magnetic Fields to a generator and bam, electricity.
-
@anonymous234 But how many magnetic fields does it need? Can I also keep my magnetic sheep in the field or will that mess with the magnets? These questions need answering!

Meanwhile, this guy is reinventing air travel as we know it.
Also, somehow this:
is v2.0 of this:
And under Risks and Challenges, he says,
nothing stands in my way.
-
@Fox So basically, he's reinventing the tail-sitters the US Air Force had in the 50s
-
@RaceProUK Yup, but he acknowledges it, at least.
In the 1950's there were two somewhat similar Tail Sitter vehicles designed and constructed. The XFV-1 and the XFY-1 did actually fly but the projects were cancelled due mainly to the pilots inability to precisely maneuver the vehicle to a landing while the pilots cockpit and visual orientation (frame of reference) were pointed skyward.
A feature of this vLazair is the unique pilots seat which overcomes the landing limitations of the 1950s Tail Sitters. It is what I call a Constant Frame Of Reference Seat (CFORS). Basically, the cockpit door is a motorized tray that the pilots seat is attached to. When the CFORS is enabled, an automatic system is engaged to keep the CFORS horizontal no matter what angle the fuselage is.
-
@Fox The broken image links on his Kickstarter page are not reassuring.
It appears that he's just adding a bunch of badly-placed auxiliary electric motors to a plane capable of landing on its tail. Which I guess is interesting, but hardly world-changing.
I wager he'd get more oomph for less added weight by simply increasing the displacement and/or propeller size of his gas motor rather than adding 6 more tiny electric motors.
Where have I see that before... oh yeah:
Lockheed built one.
-
@blakeyrat I have no problem with the images, and I actually wanted your input on his designs, since you're a fan of aircraft designs.
Imagine the possibilities
Cruise - Hover - Cruise
Off to that special spot up to 600 miles away!
-
@Fox There's a general rule when it comes to aircraft: if it looks good, it flies good. All the best aircraft designs (with the exception of the A-10 Warthog) have always looked like streamlined, attractive, almost works of art even on the ground.
This thing is ugly as fuck.
Also, the rotating cockpit seat concept is going to get some guy's foot chopped off sooner or later. And doesn't even help with landing visibility, in fact, might even make it worse. (Since once the cockpit rotates into "landing position" you lose your instruments.) It'd be much more practical to simply put some cheap CCD cameras in strategic positions for landing, although that admittedly makes exiting the aircraft without someone on the ground bringing you a ladder more complicated.
That all said, this guy does appear to have designed successful planes in the past and based on the comments on the Kickstarter has at least a few happy customers of them, so. Who knows.
-
@blakeyrat said in 3 Dimensional Phone Charging Dock++ (Kickstarter):

My thoughts exactly.

But his previous design was about as different from this current one as a fishing boat.
-
@Fox I kind of like that for an ultra-light design, which I assume it is, given the open cockpit and lack of instruments.
But yeah, the other part of this is ultra-lights have VERY different regulations than full-sized aircraft, and his new aircraft almost certainly would not qualify as an ultra-light anymore. If he's only designed ultra-lights before, he might be in for some nasty surprises. The FAA's gonna ask "what happens if one of those electric props goes out during vertical flight?" and he's gonna have to have a pretty damned good answer for them.
-
@blakeyrat said in 3 Dimensional Phone Charging Dock++ (Kickstarter):

Recharging the batteries during flight means that they should never need to be recharged while on the ground from the power grid. The worst case flight profile involves the gas generator running for a few minutes while on the ground to top up the batteries.
If enough systems fail such that hover flight is not possible, the vLazair is able to takeoff from a runway or glide to a safe landing like a conventional aircraft.
In other words, "That sounds like the pilot's problem."
And he doesn't even talk about what happens if that failure occurs during hover flight, just how to workaround it if the systems have already failed and you can't hover. Because taking off with critical system failures is a great idea, right?

I'm going to sell a product that detects fake Kickstarters.
-
The opposite of a Kickstarter failure:
These guys put up a "joke" project that looked legit. They ended up getting enough backers to get funded, and they were classy enough to not only provide the original product as promised, but also refund the money. (Fortunately, their legit project, a sci-fi board game, is over 500% funded. If you ask me, they deserve it.)
Honestly, though, I'd pay a couple bucks for 5 nicely-printed cards with that artwork on them. Why not? I bet a stationary store would carry that product, no problem.

@blakeyrat said in 3 Dimensional Phone Charging Dock++ (Kickstarter):
The scuba diver training isn't just on how to operate the scuba equipment, moron. You're going to give people the bends!
It clearly says that it's usable to a maximum depth of 15 feet. It is designed to vibrate and flash an LED to alert you that you're going too deep, and "it will get harder to breath if you go under 15 ft".
Also, it's not just gills; the gills alone don't extract oxygen from water quickly enough. It actually has a couple of small liquid O2 tanks that it uses to produce air fast enough to enable someone to breathe. I'm not sure whether the gills are a gimmick, or whether they significantly extend the duration of the breathing air from the O2 tanks. I'd certainly hope they tested it really well, though, because carrying around liquid O2 and an evaporator on your face sounds dangerous.
@Yamikuronue said in 3 Dimensional Phone Charging Dock++ (Kickstarter):
They could get around it by offering an SD slot or USB slot.
Or put wi-fi in it and make it a PCL printer (1 page per layer).
They'd still need to write software for every OS that they want to support, though.
-
Heard about this one last night, it boggled my mind:
It's gone now, IP dispute. Some people just do not understand intellectual property. If I were DotNod and some guy came to me with $20k to make a sequel or sell the IP, but also, here's the principle's backstory and here's ten voice actors you must use, and you must fulfill the promises I made to backers around multiple endings and so on, I'd tell him to go to hell.

-
@blakeyrat That 'Chrono Legends' one just makes me ill. Why would someone even bother? How could they think someone would pay for that? What's the point of making an obviously worse version of the same game? How can they even think it's similar when there's no positioning?
Obviously these questions are not targeted at anyone, just cries of toward the stars.
-
@Magus said in 3 Dimensional Phone Charging Dock++ (Kickstarter):

Ah! But as Retsupurae points out, this one allows 4 characters in a party. So in theory it has a whole new set of 4-character techniques. SO THERE!

I doubt it even has one of those.

If you're Square Enix, the point is to sell it on Android and iOS for $5 or whatever it is.
-
@Magus Heck, Chrono Trigger was SO PERFECT that they didn't even make it 3D when re-relasing it for the Nintendo DS, unlike Final Fantasy 3.
-
@aliceif Chrono Trigger is the only JRPG I could play the entire thing and not get disgusted with how shitty it is.

Anyway, the "phantom" memory usage is easy enough to fix. Chrome likes to keep any associated background apps running when you close the browser. To override that, just clear this setting:

This kickstarter is the standard "free energy" BS
Reminds me of the
guyoxygen thief we had as a roommate.Say could you crank up the heating a bit?
Why, is it too cool in the basement?
Yeah my Tesla Plate does not work at all.
What's a Tesla Plate?
You know how particles move about when there is heat?
Yes?
My Tesla Plate uses a special alloy that causes friction when the particles move within the plate.
....
So the friction generates heat which heats the room.
Free energy?
Yes!
Then why do you need the heating?
To kickstart the plate of course!
Use a candle or something.
Nah the guy who sold it to me told me it only works with central heating.
Then how do you know whether it works?
It gets warmer!
So if I turn up the heating it will get warmer thanks to your plate?
Yes!
...
The good thing is it doesn't generate any pollution or anything...
... because it doesn't do anything.
Sure heats my room
Let me just turn up the heating.

not true here were investors can get 14% a year just borrowing money for the government.

Connect with hand
How the fuck else are these people connecting phone chargers?!
Reversible connector
They're demoing that using an iPhone - which already has a fucking reversible connector on the cable that comes with it.
Sick and tired of flipping your cables back and forth to connect it on the right side?
No - it's an iPhone. See above.
Unsurprisingly, over half of their employees are either Marketing or "Creative".
-
@DogsB Kinda clever, but:
- I thought Apple had a patent on that magnetic shit
- Why not skip the gold plating and make it like 1/3rd the cost?
I love their example uses. "Are you the kind of douche who has their smartphone mounted illegally right in the middle of your windshield? You'll love this product!"
