"Send me teh codez" t-shirt

  • This idea was first mentioned here.

    Would you buy it? :)

  • Not with the whole weird black sleeves / white body thing.  If it was all white (or even better, all black) I might buy one, though.

  • @redct said:

Only if it was provided by Alex. I wouldn't buy it from you.

  •  Yeah, that's possible (I just did a quick photoshop from a zazzle product image)

  •  .@burntfuse said:

White text on all black.  With a more interesting and larger font

  •  What?! You don't like walking around as an immitation to tux? Shame on you!

  • Needs more wooden table.

That's right. And I'm expecting a cut from the profits. Plz send me teh money.

  • @redct said:

WHAT'S POSSIBLE?  lern2quotenub.  It's not hard.  I can't even read and I have learned to quote properly

  • Make it email instead of send.  White and black tee would work for me.  Could add a sentence before like "deadline on Monday" or something.

  • Alex should definitely provide this. I'd buy one! :)

  • Why couldn't you get Irish girl to model it? I'd buy if you did.

  • Oh I know! How about a shirt with:

"My posts got manhandled by AmmoQ!"

    "Reason: u know why"

If locking thread after thread doesn't work, a stronger form of moderation is taking place. As much as I hate to do it, it has to be done.

If you don't mind my asking, why now? Why the sudden stand against flamewars? Lord knows they've been a cornerstone of this forum.

Not to mention, you delete my posts. but allow people to START the flamewar. We get these anti-ms trolls, religious zealots... etc, etc.

Arguing/debating is the essence of this forum. Lock threads that were started as flames. Like ANYTHING JimB or russ ever start. Lock zombie threads... but let us have our debates!

Why now? Good question - I should have done that much earlier. Flamewars happen, but IMHO they have never been the cornerstone of this forum until some people started to throw a fscking flamebait in almost all threads.

Maybe, but let's leave pitchingchris out of this.

  • @ammoQ said:

I disagree. It seems like we can't go a week without a "Windows sucks/Linux rules" or "VB is for n00bs" argument popping up. And you really can't pin all that on MPS (though perhaps MPS is more willing to take the bait) or any other one person. That's the nature of the beast with the sort of people who hang out on forums dedicated to IT; we're a pretty pedantic bunch (ornery, too).

  • @bstorer said:

hough perhaps MPS is more willing to take the bait

I would like to add that when I do 'take the bait' and argue it is usually because some complete untruth is being stated as fact. People come here for help. We don't need slashdot answers everywhere "Wind0ze is bl0atwarez!"

I really don't think they come here for help. They come here for the same reason you or I or even the mighty ammoQ does: because they don't feel like working. But I will grant you that there's a propensity for spouting opinions as fact. Also, nice quoting job, chief (you can dish it, but can you take it?).

  • @bstorer said:

    No u!

I figured you were calling me a 'ho' and couldn't spell. Maybe you were dlikhten in disguise?

  • @bstorer said:

I don't know, I think plenty of people come here to learn something. I mean, even you are having problems in the coding help thread.... and I am doing my best to walk you through it....

  • I'm not worried about the "Windows sucks" kind of flamewar. But I'm deeply concerned when someone from Boston can't get in touch with other forum members from that area just because other people who have no connection to Boston whatsoever repeatedly turn the thread into a flamefest.

  • @ammoQ said:

I think we were all having plenty of fun until religion gets spammed.

Expect that to be flamed. It had no purpose there.

Otherwise give us a ban hammer (or post delete) and we can get rid of the spammer, and leave the thread intact.

Agreed.  I think you can be a lot less tactful than most people, but that's not a crime, really.  You have your fair share of "silly" or off-topic posts, but what regular here doesn't?  The first Boston thread disintigrated all because pitchingchris jumped in with his obnoxious religious bleating.  Seriously, he knows it's not the kind of thing that will be well-received and it certainly wasn't desired by anyone in that thread.  He hadn't even participated up until that point.  Of course, his original post was total flamebait but it wasn't full of profanity or rudeness, either, so everyone else (myself included) looked like the jerks.  It made me mad, though, because it got the thread locked and I was actually kind of interested in seeing it go on, but it was a lost cause anyway.  If ammoQ hadn't locked it we would have had a 7-page flamefest on our hands.

I should also point out that a few of the "flame" posts you guys (and myself) have made were inside jokes.  The entire screen-scraping PHP thread was one (I wrote the original code that was submitted and these guys knew it and decided to poke fun at me).  I think we have a tendency to engage in mock-drama for our own amusement and usually it's harmless enough because nobody gets drawn into it.

It would be nice if you and pstorer weren't so quick to respond to flamebait of the sort bitchingchris posted, but I did the same thing and I'd probably do it again.  It would be hypocritical of me to say "be nicer" because I can be very rude with people who craft idiotic posts (a lot of the uninformed, anti-X garbage) or out-and-out flamebait (pitchingchris).  I don't know what the best solution is, but I don't want moderation and I don't think it is the answer.  Perhaps we should show a little more restraint when dealing with the annoying crap and we should probably cut down on the inside-jokes and especially the mock-flaming, because it can be taken seriously by others and cast a negative light on everything else we post.  Just my 2 cents.. (all I have left after buying ketchup).

Dude, even I'm not stupid enough to give you mod powers.  Well, not after the last time, at least...

I think ammoQ has generally done a pretty good job by letting the minor arguments work themselves out and only getting involved in the blatant trolling or spam.  Recently, he has cracked down a little harder than I like, but it was getting a bit ridiculous.  Also, I don't blame you guys for ruining the Boston thread because you didn't start it (pitchingchrist did).  Still, it is frustrating that every thread devolves into a damn flamefest.  I'm not pointing fingers and I've probably had a hand in a few of them myself, but I do wish things were different.  Still, ammoQ is cool, he has yet to censor me for repeatedly calling him a Nazi (obviously as a joke).  Maybe that's because he knows America is awesome and that by winning WWII we earned the right to rub it in the losers' faces for 100 years afterwards.  So, ammoQ, I promise I will stop calling you a Nazi in 2045.

Thank you. It was frustrating watching every single thread get turned into a flamewar.

    Ahh, the words of wisdom.

Seriously, you all heard the old adage "Don't feed the trolls", right? Yet it's precisely what you do upon encountering something suspicious. If you think it's a bait — ignore it and be happy. Or respond, but at least clearly state your opinion and don't sound like a jerk. "GTFO troll" isn't going to evoke any pleasant emotions in anybody except you, and I hope you aren't that egotistical to post solely for e-dick enlargement. You don't want moderation — don't flame, it's that simple.

Also, it might be hypocritical for you, but I don't think it is for me, so: Be nicer! Just my 2 copecks.

    P.S.: <mode impersonation="MPS">Just grow up already and eat it.</mode>

I always miss out when t-shirts are offered only in black.  Here in Arizona, wearing a black shirt is a good way to PAINFULLY DIE on a hot day.  A white option is always appreciated! :)
