Why doesn't the home page scroll correctly on back-button?

I haven't reported this on github cos I don't think it's a bug, but it is bloody annoying.
With all the effort put into trying to land you at the most-recently read post when you return to a thread, why doesn't the home page correctly support the back button and return you to where you were in the list?
It just sends you to the top of the screen again.

I think it's because every time you land there the whole thing is refreshed from scratch, which means that enough time is spent with nothing there for the window to get shoved to the top.
