How do I make a new chat?
-
I might be being stupid, but I can't figure out how to make a new chat with someone when I've already got an existing one with them.
Am I being blind, or is there some unintuitive semi-hidden thing in the UI that will let me do it?
Edit: Here's what I've tried:
Click the chat bubble in the top right
Click "see all chats"
Search for the guy I want to chat to
Oh, look, an existing PM chain, and I can't even edit the title, because I didn't even create it.
I can't seem to find a way to create a new PM chain when one already exists. If I select a person that I've never PM'd before I get a new chat, but can't find a way to create a new one for someone I've spoken to before.

@DoctorJones Apparently, going to a profile page of someone you don't have a chat with, starting a chat, adding the user you want to actually chat with and removing the user you don't does work.

I guess you could leave the existing room?

This whole chat thing is one of the less-fully-baked parts of NodeBB.

I tried finding something, but no luck. There are a few holes in this "chat" feature …
-
@abarker Which wouldn't work if you already had a chat with just DoctorJones.
-
@loopback0 Did you read all of my post, or did you stop when you got to the video? ;)

I don't remember seeing text after the video, so...
-
I think I've figured it out.
If you go to your chat history, and click the X on the old chat in the left-hand menu, it'll delete it. You can then initiate a new chat from their user profile.
Worked for me testing right now, but that was about 5 seconds' worth, so I might have missed something.

@e4tmyl33t Unfortunately, you then lose access to the old chat

This is indeed an unfortunate side effect. However, the point of the thread was to make a new chat with someone. Nobody said anything about retaining the old one. :P
-
Be easier to just change the topic of the chat and use the existing one, which is presumably the idea behind how it's designed.
-
@loopback0 unfortunately you can only do this if you're the one who started the chat, otherwise you're shit outta luck.
I've been working around it by starting a new chat with one of the forum bots and then booting them out and adding in the person I actually wanted to chat to.

Always good for people to abuse, huh?
Boy, they're going to have fun when they log in and find gazillions of notifications...
-
You have no new notifications

Here, have a like notification, and a mention notification, and (if everything goes right) a reply notification.
We'll get you fed, ne'er ye worry!

Where's gone?!
@ben_lubar - are we missing the TDWTF emojicons?
-
@loopback0 works for me :/
-
@ben_lubar :/
-
-
Works for me also. Try hard refresh?
-
@CatPlusPlus I did. I've done it again and still no.
-
@loopback0 I see what you see.
-
Also before the "Legal Information" bit of the emojicon popup had a section for TDWTF which it no longer has.
-
Huh. It's probably some backends running different config/code (that with IP hash or some other consistent load-balancing method would be why it works for some people and not others). Or statics I guess, but statics shouldn't go through backends.
-
ok, restarted all four instances. @loopback0, any change? (after a refresh)
-
I mentioned this in the Lounge, but I'll bring it up here, also. I just tried to use , and the emoji picker came up and I hit Enter and it didn't replace the text with the emoji. I tried again by clicking on it, and it just put the : hanzo: text there. But now it just worked, so who knows what's going on. Also also,
\:hanzo:
doesn't seem to work any longer--how can we escape stuff without backticks now? Also also also I wonder if that is related to the other weird thing I just noticed, which is that the auto-jump-to-last-read-post shows up on some threads and some threads pop the toaster instead. Have we got multiple instances that are out of sync in some way?
-
@FrostCat the only thing I can think of is if you browsed the forum while not logged in for those threads.
-
@ben_lubar Yeah working now
-
@ben_lubar Nope, one browser, and for a little while it seemed like a coin flip which behavior I'd get: open one topic in a new tab, get one behavior, open the next topic, get the other behavior.
