iPad landscape usability issues
-
So I browse on iPad. It's currently on 9.2 not 9.2.1.
Reaching the bottom of a thread, I'm basically fucked - the only ways to get out of a thread are to use the back button or to scroll to the top because the header UI disappears so I have no way to navigate out of a topic. This also means I have no idea how far down the topic I am.
Owing to the keyboard being where it is, a longer post requires me to switch keyboard modes so I can actually see what I'm typing, as it gets partially scrolled off the screen. Bonus points for split mode, too:
Then there's the jellypotatoing, which we know about.
Then there's the sidebar on the right. I can see a smallish chunk of it, plus the times it flashes into view while scrolling (because I have to do that a bit to leave a topic) and I haven't worked out what magic touch/swipe thing I'm supposed to do to see it. Perhaps I haven't done it quick enough/slow enough/on the exact 3 pixel square area I can't see to trigger it. Or maybe this software is buggier than first thought.

You don't need to go all the way to the top; a little upward scroll should be enough

This post is deleted!

@RaceProUK nope. I don't see the header navigation except when I scroll an entire screen at once, which flashes the sidebar, flashes the heading, then loads the posts and then the heading is gone again. If I pay attention as I page up, I can see the topic indicator but not nearly fast enough to actually hit anything up there, e.g. notifications.

@Arantor double posted due to bandwidth dropping while on train, and NodeBB didn't tell me it had either succeeded or failed. Congrats, something even Discourse got right.
-
@calmh haven't been notified it's out, besides every time I upgrade, it gets buggier, less stable and slower. Has been noticeably doing so iteratively since iOS 7 betas.
-
@Arantor At least you didn't get the dreaded 'Body to similar' message ;)
I'd rather a double-post than no post at all.
-
@Arantor Dude it's been out for like almost 24 hours if not more.
-
@calmh check for updates is once a week. Notice I'm already intentionally behind anyway.
-
I was trying to be clear that I was teasing you as it's only just been released. :) Anyway it's all shit on 9.3 as well so ...

Swiping left should work, to get to the mobile side menu (does for me on iOS 9.2.1).

Should just be swiping to the left from anywhere (except the far right, which is caught by iOS). That's how it was for me. I can try it again when I get home.
-
On that note, swiping to the right ("back") a bit and then changing your mind (swiping back to the left) brings out the right menu. Which is wrong.

You should report that as a bug, because there's no good reason for it. (I'm going to be nice, unlike a certain we-all-know-who, and not say it's a stupid design.)
-
-
@FrostCat I wouldn't say it's stupid, but it is silly

I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about.
Me and @blakeyrat are fast friends!

I spontaneously lost the ability to do anything. I couldn't reply, quote, up vote, down vote... Had to force quit everything shut and restarted Safari... Yay.
-
@Arantor
Not a Safari issue ... had it on my Android tablet and this afternoon on Chrome (desktop).
I think it has more to do with messing with the back-end

It's on the right and you see it occasionally while scrolling.
Pretend you're on Tinder and you find it unattractive.
-
@Arantor I'm not sure if the spinner shows up on mobile, but if it does, that means the server is in the middle of a restart.
-
@ben_lubar I'm on iPad in landscape, which means 1024 logical pixels (2048 physical pixels)... That shouldn't be mobile
-
@Arantor I think the right sidebar shows up with up to 1199px wide touch devices.
