Rome Total War 2

Anyone playing this.
Just trying to finally take over England. Note there are Brits but in the game they are not Roman.
-
I bought this when it came out. I gave up after not very long because it was super buggy. I believe these have been mostly resolved but I never revisted it. I'm interested to know how you get on.

I have played this a bit. I have an ongoing campaing with the macedonians. I lost once playing the Romans in the Caesar in the Gaul expansion. I want to try that again leaning more towards asymmetric warfare (pillage + GTFO with an always , minus the winter, moving army).
Disclaimer: I am mildly drunk

You had to go and piss off Asterix and Obelix, didn't you?

Seems to me that the Gaulic Dog mauled him.

I've pretty much won, I am at I think 20AD.
I should really be taking over Britain but I expanded too far into the Germanic region.
-
How about you say what you think?
-
Any insight? The only feedback about this campaing is my coworker telling me he couldn't win it normal dificulty and "OMG so hard"
-
I am playing as Rome, so things are easier. There is no Julia, Sciipia or Brutiaa houses.
I took on Catharge early and at the same time the Gaullic states. Took me til about 20AD to control most of Spain / France / Germany and parts of the Eastern Empire.
What seems to be off in Rome 2, is how much stronger the Roman units are supposed to be. I had an army from Rome with the strongest units at the time and it was still beaten (in battle field mode) even though I think my strategy was sound ...
I have played as Britannia and it is bollockingly difficult, because the only plus we had was the chariots and you don't even have that at the start of the game.
For all the faults in the game it is really additive. I think Barbarian invasion was a better game because I was playing the more barbarian way ... which suits my mentality.
-
I actually own this and have never played it, I should give it a try. I might only own the first one.
-
One is better than 2, but getting 1 to work now is more difficult than 2
-
Oh that's a shame. Last weekend I had a hankering to play Mount and Blade: Warlords, only to find it completely bombs in Windows 10. Feh.
-
If you mean Mount & Blade: Warband, it's available on Linux/SteamOS now, so you could try that
-
I did mean that and I will not try that.
-
I have Warband and windows 10 and I have had no problems personally. Good lord of the rings mod btw if you like that kind of stuff
-
Yeah it looks like some people can, most people can't. Which doesn't surprise me, it's been a shoddy game since day 1.
-
More things broken with Rome 2, the army strength is a poor indicator of the strength of the army even with similar enemy units.
I routed a large army of mostly sword band and levy freeman with my own similar units. The army was much larger and had some dangerous unit types (Heroic Warriors etc).
-
Personally, I wouldn't recommend Rome TW at all. The best part about Rome 1 was Europa Barbarorum (the mod made by history buffs disappointed in how cartoony the base game was), and EB2 got released as a mod for medieval 2. So if you buy medieval, you get a whole medieval game, plus a whole Rome game, minus all the ridiculousness.
-
I don't expect it to be mega realistic, it is a game after all and not really a simulation.

I typed up a whole post about this, but it got jellypotatoed away from me. The bottom line is that despite being more historically accurate, eb is actually a better game than rome.
-
@lucas1 you mean by playing the battle? or just with the auto calculator?. If you played the battle you are that good. In the other case I guess the general and the army traditions play a big role in the outcome of automatic battles, I never thought it to be unbalanced.

The only real strategy game worth playing is the one that Magnus plays. ï…Š
