Two mention anchors?

So I recently added some local CSS to make the mentions stand out from other links, and I started noticing something: some mentions look a little different:

Inspection of the DOM reveals that there is an extra empty anchor tag just before the populated one:

Workaround:

.plugin-mentions-a:empty {
    display: none;
}

Confirmed that the issue occurs when a user is mentioned multiple times in a single paragraph, such as in the first and third posts of The Mysterious Doubling Mention Tags. If there is a blank line between the mentions, such as in the second post of said topic, the empty mention link does not get generated.
