Things you wish they worked differently. One item per post, up/downvote to indicate agreement or disagreement. This should make it nice and easy for community members or devs to find items to act on.
-
I'd think for likes/upvotes, they should do it like Facebook does: don't notify on the first one (like discourse) or every one (like ) but only when it gets enough upvotes to be unusual for your posts. Facebook then goes "This post is doing really well! Do you want to pay some money to spread it around more?" which is an easily actionable item. A forum should say something like "This post is doing well, you should post more things like that!"
-
I want a proper "In Reply To" notification instead of this workaround/hack where it inserts a mention instead. When people reply to me to add on another question, it looks like they're asking me, and I don't know shit about NodeBB.
-
The composer needs to be fixed! Having to resize it so you can see the lower parts of your post is inacceptable.
Filed Under: This should be a priority fx
-
The elevator/current-post-position counter should correctly show X of X when at the end of a thread. I've seen it off by as many as 4.
-
Changing a theme in settings should preview the theme, not revert to the default. Saving and hard-refreshing to see what a theme looks like is bad.
-
Clicking a topic from the list shouldn't always take you to the top.
-
The ability to filter out certain types of notifications.
All I want to know is when people mention and reply to me; I don't care much about up/downvotes, and I certainly don't care about bookmarks and follows.
-
-
Notifications when my posts get moved.
I saw this and was like I didn't do that.
-
Real PMs.
-
Tooltips. They need to happen.
-
An option to turn off the number on the favicon.
-
All the stuff I mentioned in my thread that I'm not going to repost here.
-
Actually I am going to post two: Fix the UI for people who have browser zoom turned on
-
Don't force me into full-screen mode because I am using a window on an OS that supports windows. THAT IS FUCKING RETARDED.

THAT ISFUCKING RETARDEDexpected behavior.I don't disagree, but it's a bit oversensitive. Notably, on my firefox, on a 1080p screen, at default zoom, using Win+← to set the window to half the screen switches it to mobile mode, which it really shouldn't.
-
Jumping to posts seems to be misimplemented - the post you navigate to frequently lands offscreen.
-
Muting topics.
-
Way ahead of you on that one: https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/issues/4388
-
Partial reading de-unreads a thread.
-
The thread title needs to be visible at all times. Having to scroll to the start of the thread just to remember what the thread was called is really annoying.

THAT ISFUCKING RETARDEDexpected behavior. You know better than that, Ben. People with modern flagship phones probably trigger the opposite. My phone's resolution is 1440x2560 (which, frankly, is stupid for a frigging 5.5" display, for no reason other than "games bog down trying to push that many pixels", which is enough on its own!), will NodeBB put me in desktop mode on my phone? (I haven't tried yet, but if it does, that's just as bad as what @blakeyrat's complaining about.
-
@FrostCat I'm pretty sure that's CSS pixels, not physical pixels. CSS pixels are independent of DPI.

I actually believe phones have a special treatment or something. The size calculations only appear to take effect on tablets or computers

It's not physical centimetres it's space shuttle centimetres.
Crazy.
-
@ben_lubar Looks like you're right? I tried posting in another topic with my phone in landscape mode, and it looked different from composing on desktop, so I guess we get that right at least. I find myself in agreement with @blakeyrat about narrow desktop windows triggering mobile post mode being the wrong thing to do, and not just because he gets heartburn when I agree with him.

I want to be able to tell apart NEW threads (threads where I have not read the OP) from unread threads. This was actually something I... liked... about Discourse...
-
@LB_ if we can get the last read post as part of the topic list link, that could be accomplished using CSS.

There seems to be ample info in the JSON for it to work, at least within the same thread. Even something like Discourse's gray pop-in thing seems like something doable, to a point.

THAT ISFUCKING RETARDEDexpected behavior. No, I run the forum in a smaller browser window while at work and I am annoyed too by some stuff. It's definitely not running in mobile mode but it's just not ... optimal.

Feature request: new topics section.
I'd like a way to see new topics, I tend to work my way through new topics, and rarely return to one that I've previously read.
At the very least I'd like a list of all topics with the newest at the top.
Is there any way we can do this?
-
The slide-in of the menu (?) on the right shouldn't be so sensitive. About 1/3 of the time when I swipe up to scroll the post viewport, I accidentally swipe 1 pixel to the left before vertical scrolling takes and the right hand menu opens instead.
-
Is there a way to make it so when I click a notification about unread posts that it takes me to the first unread instead of the last unread?
-
When I enter a topic, why is the default not to jump to the first new post :/
-
If I want to change theme, I have to go to the settings page, select the new theme, scroll down to save, then refresh to see the new theme
-
One thing I like to see in the Unread list is how many posts in a topic are unread. It prevents accidentally stepping into a flamewar!
Of course, I then usually intentionally do so, but that's beside the point.
Addendum: It also allows me to mentally allocate how much time I should spend reading the topic, which is important to me.

Suggested Topics
Discourse had this. Once you reach the end of a topic / thread, you get a list of topics to continue onward to. These would be:
- Topics you're following that have new posts
- New topics in the same category as the current topic
- Other new topics by some criteria I'm not sure of
It was quite nice when just browsing as you usually have a "next" destination when reaching the end of a topic. Now you need to scroll up to reveal the top bar, then hit the logo to go the topic list, then find something else interesting, then click that.

I just hit "back" to return to the Unread list, or wherever I came from. This seems to work, and even removes the topic I was just in from Unread. I operate the site almost exclusively on mobile though, YMMV. That being said, this is the other feature I particularly miss!
-
Have some way of expanding partial quotes. Discourse had this.
If blakey quotes someone and all I can see is
@blakeyrant said:

I don't even know what he's referring to or whether the quote's real.
This probably requires making quotes first-class objects instead of a formatting quirk.

The quote is only for your reference. Everyone else must guess if you told the truth or not.
Yeah, extreme loss of properties here for sure.

This would be especially useful so long as reading a single post marks the whole thing as read.
-
Reply button on posts should be a dropdown with the options to reply to the topic (i.e., not to a particular post) or as a new topic.
-
Instead of an error page, let's just give you JSON!
-
@JazzyJosh I got that message this morning. But the json was transformed into little popups.
-
Can we bring back edits?
-
@boomzilla Yeah, but I refreshed.
