Topic owners shouldn't be able to delete others' posts.
-
No.
Just... no.
-
@Maciejasjmj are you talking about deleting threads? unfortunately it's limited to threads created in the last 600000 seconds.
-
In most cases, there shouldn't even be a concept of "topic owner" (except in the unbalanced minds of certain posters). Just because someone started a new topic doesn't mean he/she/it should control how other people respond.

this. exactly this.
-
Ooor... apparently they can't?
THEN WHY THE HELL DO YOU GIVE THEM THAT OPTION IN THE TOPIC TOOLS!
-
Although apparently deleting the whole topic is indeed an option.
-
This post is deleted!
-
@HardwareGeek Safe Spaces...
-
i would like everything to disappear a few days after its posted
-

@HardwareGeek well, scary thing is, now each and every @fbmac's thread is subject to full deletion with all its contents.
He can't fully purge it, and the mods can restore it, but still...
-
@Maciejasjmj they are pretty visible grayed out for them, I guess I wont have as much freedom to do it as you fear.
if ben restored an obscured and forgotten thread whish already had "deleted" as a title in less than 10min, I think he won't let me delete any thread.
-
@fbmac It's because you called attention to it and I looked in the event log.
By the way, @administrators, https://what.thedailywtf.com/admin/advanced/events is your friend.

That only applies to posts, topics it seems just go out of the topic list.
-
@HardwareGeek I 100% agree with you. The problem with Discourse is when other people made changes to my topic's OP, it would attribute that change to me and not them.
Thus anybody could go into my "what do you think of kittens?" thread are rename the title to "what do you think of Nazis?" and there's literally no way another person visiting the thread could tell it had been changed.

If you made your edit history public, the OP edit history would show both the edit and the person who made it. (I'm pretty sure that's true, but I can't double-check any more.)
-
@HardwareGeek As if people would ALWAYS hit the history button and check. Think about what you're typing before you type it.
Look, the point was: my objection to Discourse was that it let other people edit shit but then lied to all its users and told everybody I had edited it. That is an obvious wrong stupid horrible bug.

No, of course not. But ISTM that active users know titles
awere mutable, and don't assume a topic's title was set by the OP. Most of the time, I don't remember who the OP was. I care who wrote the post I'm reading, but not who started the topic. Also, to paraphrase one of your complaints, why do you care what some random stranger on the internet thinks of your topic title?
-
@HardwareGeek It doesn't matter. The software shouldn't facilitate Bill claiming credit for Bob's text.
I'm not saying it's a world-shaking bug that's going to end the universe, but it is a bug that made it extremely wrong for people to go into my topics and change my titles. Maybe you don't agree with me. Fine. Whatever. You don't have to.

Oh, good. That's such a relief!

I can't see that image and clicking it gives me a dropbox 410?

You mean except for the pencil icon that indicated a change?
