There's an option "selected" in the "Mark as Read" menu, but no way to select anything.

Clicking on the avatar takes you to the profile page of the OP on any other screen. This is not only hard to discover, this is a UI/UX bug.

+1, there should be checkbox or something to click on, I was super confused about how to 'select' topics.
