  • Children, please.

  • heh... thanks for proofing my claim with this situation. I WAS being serious. Call me humorless if you must, but I think if half of the people can't be for sure if the other half is serious that's a sign you should overthink things. And even if some people here are just playing their oh-so-funny inside jokes, so what? If you want to make a forum about inside jokes, go to /b/. But last time I checked this one was about IT and not about annoying pranks.

As for "we're only displaying our opinion about sucky threads", hello??? Maybe you're not the only one who judges a thread here? Last time I checked, Alex was the admin and not you. So please cut it, for everyone's sake.

Holy crap. I have no idea how this thread turned into such drama, I must've missed something good. I'm really having a hard time believing that this is even a serious post. At no point would I have placed morbiuswilters on the "serious" side of the forum. That's just silly.

Oh, I see. And your own posts in this thread have been of great relevance to IT. Can you explain to me -- without leaping into a big, steaming vat of hypocrisy -- how complaining about us is somehow noble, while our own off-topic conversations are a blight on this otherwise pristine forum? All forums everywhere on the internet get silly, except maybe forums.sticksupourasses.com. Maybe you'd be happier there?

And not you, either. We two wield equal power around here, which is to say that neither one of us has any. If Alex has a problem with us, he's certainly within his rights to put his foot down. I would hope he be reasonable enough to say, "Guys, knock it off," but he could certainly go as far as swinging the ban hammer far and wide. So far, he's done nothing. And neither has ammoQ, although that may be because he doesn't exist -- oops, that was one of our oh-so-funny inside jokes.

Not that this is any of my business, but you really seem to be taking this thread seriously.  Assuming that you've read some of the forum regulars' posts in other threads: By any chance, have you noticed anyone acting out of character here, so to speak?  Has anyone been using stilted, overly formal and polite language, where they would normally be swearing and making jokes?  Do certain forum regulars appear to be squabbling amongst themselves, when they usually feed off each others' jokes?

I admit that I used to play along with Lingerance and his mob from time to time, but I am being completely serious now.  The flaming has gotten out of control and I'm just tired of it.

In hindsight, my statement seems pretty silly.  I've only been an active member of the forum for 3.5 months so of course it seems to have been going downhill for that long.  I lurked long before that, but I wasn't the victim of Lingerance and MasterPlan's flaming so I didn't realize if it was as bad or not.

Final hint: if you look at this thread and take pretty much every post not written by you, starting with morbiuswilters quoted post above, and surround it with gigantic SARCASM tags, the entire thing would make a lot more sense....

Final-est hint:  morbiuswilters obviously disagrees with PSWorx's assessment of the others, he expressed it in the most sarcastic way possible, and the others jumped in to play along for laughs....

My posts were not sarcastic, I'm sorry if they seemed that way.  I suppose my occassional joking with bstorer and agreement with MasterPlan has caused this forum to question my character.  I now regret associating myself with men of ill-repute.  I assure you that PSWorx is completely correct about the malignant effect Lingerance and Co. have had on this forum.

Sorry if my posts confused you, CodeSimian.  I will be praying for you tonight.  Take care.

I don't know why I keep letting myself get dragged back into this, but since I'm here, "men of ill-repute"? You're laying it on a little thick, aren't you? I used to think you were one of the half-decent ones here. You seemed to have a sense of humor and you occasionally provided a worthwhile comment. morbiuswilters, thank you for your sincere and contrite admission.  I was nearly moved to tears by your firm commitment to join the rarified ranks of serious and mature Internet forum posters.

I think we can all agree that what every forum needs is a lot less humour.  In fact, this philosophy can be extended to the Real World, as well.  By banning blatant displays of "humour", "fun", and "camaraderie" in schools, workplaces, and comedy clubs, I think we can move closer to achieving the worthy goal of Total World Boredom.

As for myself, I will do my part by refraining from blasting SpectateSwamp with unfocused rants and lame attempts at jokes every time he feels the need to post pictures of supersonic Tobacco Leaf Fliers on an IT forum.  @morbiuswilters said:

This is soooo typical of forum bullies.  SpectateSwamp was right (and I quote): "On the Internet, any attempt at a serious, intellectual and reasonable discourse between like-minded individuals soon degrades into a retarded flameflest.  It's enough to make Kindly Old Greppler spin in his grave."

So morbiuswilters has decided to return to the straight and narrow path of righteousness after leading a virtual life of wickedness and trollishness-ery.  So he just happens to be humble enough to admit it to everyone here.  And he happens to be firm enough in his religious convictions that he prays to his personal Lord and Saviour for your immortal souls!  What, that isn't enough for you?  Perhaps you'd like some fries with that, or a cappuccino?

I think SpectateSwamp is the source of a lot of this.  His insanity made people feel justified in mocking him, but some individuals like MasterPlan and pstorer grew bored and moved onto better targets such as myself.  I wouldn't be surprised if the domain "mostretardedmanintheworld.com" has already been registered and these children are busy putting up all kinds of slanderous things about me.  I'm lucky nobody knows where I work or I could be in serious danger.

Pray for me as well, if you will.  It helps to know that there are many speaking to the Almighty on my behalf.  Perhaps he will intervene and put a stop to the abuses this forum has undergone as of late.  I know it's not likely, but we can't say how God acts or why He does what He does.  All we can do is accept it and be humble servants.  There's a Psalm I find particularly comforting in times of distress, Psalm 39.  Perhaps you will read it during your Bible study time tonight.  Thank you.

This kind of anti-religious hatred and persecution has no place on an IT forum.  There are many of His faithful here who are probably afraid to speak out for fear of being mocked by trolls like yourself.  I don't go around making light of Buddha or Allah or Richard Dawkins.  Part of what makes this country great is that people are free to believe in any religion they want, but that doesn't give a right for people to just say whatever they want about somebody else's beliefs.  You can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater and the 1st Amendment doesn't give you the right to say hurtful and prejudiced things about someone.

Oh, good, we've descended into racism now.  I guess I should except that from a bunch of white, virginal teenagers who have never left their mom's basement.  Have any of you ever explored the rich, varied cultures of people around the world?  You might learn something if you tried to make friends with a Mexican, Slovenian, Black or Oriental.  There are cultures other than the empty, consumerist one of the United States and Canada and you might learn something about yourself if you took the time to explore them.  And guys, eating Chinese takeout doesn't count.  How about reading some Japanese poetry or learning the native dances of India?  The world outside the Internet is rich with possibility if you only dare to embrace it.

I hate it when people say this. It's such a stupid thing to think we're the only people with a consumerist mentality. This shows what you really know about the rest of the world. Do you think all the other countries are full of people only interested in spiritual enlightenment? And among the ones who do claim not to be consumerist, most of them are jealous of us because we have things they want. Why do you think terrorists all want to kill us?

    Well, maybe you should!

Buddha is walking barefoot in New York (dangerous, I know) and he walks past a hot dog van. The seller calls out, "Hey Buddha, youse wants a hot dogs or somethin'?" To which he replied, "Make me one with everything."

So Buddha gives the vendor a five dollar note and he gets his hot dog, but no change. He asks, "What about my change?" The crafty hot dog sellar said with a grin, "change comes from within."

    @bstorer said:

Religion is a complex issue.  I don't agree with what Muslims believe in, but it is their right under the 1st Amendment to practice their religion and I'm not going to mock or deride them for it.  I can't approve of murdering innocent people, but final judgement rests with the Lord.  I hope Jesus will show mercy to those who have chosen the path of violence as a means of spreading their message, but I must accept whatever happens.  However, on Earth we do have options and our country is founded on the right of people to practice their religion freely.  I want to discourage Muslims from suicide bombings and plane hi-jackings because that is not what Christ would have wanted.  We can't restrict what another person does, though, just because we don't agree with their religion.  That is intolerance and discrimination and this country has enough of a bad history with the slaughter of Native Americans, the enslavement of African-Americans and the worldwide conspiracy to spread secularism and atheism through the media and public education system.

I've got to give you guys points for making possibly the strangest thread I've ever read. It seems like it's going on at least three different levels: Two shall we say "questionably funny" in-jokes, and possibly one level of seriousness. Enjoy yourselves, whoever is in on the joke(s).

Ha, excellent summary. This thread has me following along like a soap opera -- except i dont watch soap opera. Lots of self-reference and meta-humor going on here. Very web 2.0
