:middle_finger: Fuck you Opera as hard as your new UI fucks my eyes

Just look at those anorexic curves! The broken logo! And... I'm pretty sure that's all they've changed (that I notice). But still! This looks awful!
-
So while Firefox is copying Chrome, Opera is copying Edge?

So... OS specific styling?
Do note that it's not picking up the system styles here either, the tabs should be square if it followed system styling properly:
-
With that logo, you're risking Sonic the Hedgehog jumping right into your monitor.
EDIT: And RicePro is right, that totally looks like Edge widgets. Like... 95% exact match looks like Edge widgets.

Chrome is going to be changing its design to Material Design soon:
https://imgur.com/a/UzuLJSeems there is a sense of redesign in the air.

Seemingly; Opera 36 on Windows 7 looks much the same as your Debian screenshot. Now I just have to figure out why it's crashing when I try to open Settings. ::sigh::
Added: No luck on the crash, but (for now) you can get a bit of the old look back by disabling opera://flags/#windows-10-skin . I bet that one disappears quickly.

Which means Firefox will six months later.

I tried looking for something like that yesterday. Haven't found this one, but found another - something about using system theme on W8+. It didn't change the browser to old look, but it made scroll bars fugly.
-
Check out the new themes for your start page thingy!
Because having an animated video of flickering candles as a background totally isn't annoying. Or distracting. Or looks like shit over a remote desktop connection.

That's been in there for a while now.
Can we just turn this into "Fuck you Opera 15+" general bitching thread? For all 4 of us who are bitter about it all?
FWIW, I switched to Vivaldi now. I have complaints, I have many complaints, but damn it, at least those guys seem to get why someone would want a "different" browser, like Opera did. Might as well support the damned thing in any small way I can.
-
If you open the speed dial themes pane, turning on the news feature will hide the news icon, and vice versa.

Yes. So if you want to be able to click the news icon you have to remember to turn off news.
-
The news icon is the middle one on the left in the first pic.
-
On further testing, removing the button adds all the news underneath your speed dial links.

No, because new Opera looked rather okay up until now.
-
I wasn't talking about the skin, I was talking about the browser in general.
-
The browser is okay. It shows pages. It doesn't take half an hour to launch. It lets me choose what pages I see on start screen. That's all I care about. When I last switched browsers two(ish) years ago, every other browser lacked at least one of these, so I sticked to it. And it still shows pages, and still launches in under a minute, and still lets me choose pages on start screen - I don't have a reason to switch. No UI is impossible to get used to.
-
But still! This looks awful!
Agreed, it should match my chosen Windows UI colour.

I don't know why anyone would want that either. I just use a photo of an Inca Tern.
The browser is okay.
It is. I used to use Chrome, but then Windows started burping up "If you don't close Chrome I will because it's using too much goddamned memory" messages, so I threw another 8GB into the PC to appease the Google Gods. Errors still came so I switched to Opera. Can continue to use my Chrome extensions (the web is a much happier place with Stop Tony Meow), it doesn't chew through memory as badly as Chrome, behaves better on a HiDPI display compared to Chrome.
Although...
I think something is amiss there with those extension icons... so maybe this update kinda broke some of the better HiDPI behaviour.

Windows started burping up "If you don't close Chrome I will because it's using too much goddamned memory" messages
are you doing with Chrome?! Keeping like 208382 tabs open?!
The recentish tab discarding feature might help if you are.
-

Doubly inquisitive here.
I keep probably close to 30-40 tabs open on my home PC at all times, with at least 6 or 7 of those being Youtube, and Chrome never caps out at over 2GB or so of RAM usage.

The recentish tab discarding feature might help if you are.I have 13 tabs, which has 20 processes running, using a total of 927296K. Meanwhile FF is open with 7 tabs (2 of which are ) and it has 1 process and 652720K.

They have a checkbox for that in Settings. Not sure why they felt it was needed, but whatever.
-

I don't think I've ever opened more than 15 tabs simultaneously, let alone left them open for a considerable amount of time. I had Chrome using 1.5GB out of the 3.5GB RAM on my Windows 7 (32-bit) work machine the other day. Windows didn't seem to give a shit.
My work laptop (OSX) and my home desktop (Win 10 x64) both have 16GB RAM and I can't even conceive Chrome using a significant portion of that.
-
Most of mine are either stuff I forget to close, stuff I leave open for later reference because my bookmark sorting scheme is completely chaotic and screwed and needs cleaning, stuff I leave open so I remember I need to work on it next time I'm on that machine, or basic things like Reddit, email, Facebook, and one tab for here.
I may be a bit scatterbrained.
-

I didn't turn my PC off that often and usually I just left things as they were. Sometimes a heap of tabs, sometimes a couple. But even after closing a heap of tabs I'd still get the "angryface Chrome is eating too much RAM!" errors. It was starting to become a daily occurrence with 16GB RAM. I think I've had that once with Opera.
I may be a bit scatterbrained.
I am too. I do much the same with tabs as well.

Ooh, thanks, I'll reboob Opera on this here work PC and check that directly. (Also grey is bland and boring)

Also grey is bland and boring
And that's exactly why I like grey UI - it doesn't distract me from content.

Gandalf got bored with grey too - he switched to white for a reason, after all.

See, I've never gotten the whole "colour is distracting GREY EVERYWHERE" argument. If the colour is flashing or changing constantly, sure, then it's distracting. If it's a solid colour or it changes subtly, then I've never really noticed it.
-
Vivaldi has an option to colour the tabs based on the site's favicon. It's on by default. I'm trying to imagine the rage this would induce...
