How much is censorship worth?
-
Interesting conversation.
Curious what people's reactions would be.
-
It's funny to me that people never realize the problems of censorship until the political environment shifts, and they end up on the receiving end.
I'm beginning to see that insight is a euphemism for approved speech.
How is this any different from the Puritans saying we can't use profanity and dance at parties?
-
How much is censorship worth?
10 billion trillion dollars (US of D).
-
LOL...
But seriously though.
Where's the gray line between rejecting topics in your community and letting them stay because censorship does more bad than good?
-
Well it isn't free. It costs $1.05.
-
What's the community about? What do people want to talk about? Is a particular topic too disruptive? Does it annoy you a lot?
There's no answer that will make everyone happy, but those are probably the key questions (aside from actual illegal speech).

Every time I've gone to forums where they dissuade controversial topics was usually on the grounds that nobody could discuss or debate them with civility. Thus you'd have any thread that dealt with abortion or the death penalty devolving into a 60-page ragefest. So, civility (or lack thereof) is a big part of censorship in a lot of forums, IMO.
I know of a forum that bans any kind of controversial topic (mainly because anything discussing it would almost always be counter to the overall theme and subject of the forum anyways, and it almost always derailed the thread), but opted to have a completely separate forum specifically for the purpose of debating anything they wanted, as long as it was done cordially and without flamewars. Somehow they were able to pull it off. Think of it as a reverse safe space.

Oh, the upload was really quick; it's the processing after that's taking agesEdit: Fuck it, I'm not trying anymore to upload that 'Does not compute' GIF I've uploaded a million times before.

The Reply button still works even when 'disabled' when the "Uploading 100%" shit gets stuck.

TDWTF?
TDWTF is not safe for anyone. In fact, I'm surprised we haven't turned into a suicide cult yet.

WoWHead had "please whitelist us" in the ad spaces, and I used to do that, until they started loading autoplay video ads at the bottom of long pages, 5-10 minutes after the page loaded. I'm so glad the browser vendors started adding speaker symbols to audio-playing tabs.
-
I disable them on nexus mods.
I know, evil right.
Well the damn ads rotate every 30 seconds, and most of them are heavy on processing and memory. With more than 5-6 Nexus tabs open, my browser crawls.
So, yeah, blocked.

I never saw that kind of problem with Chrome. IE has some serious issues with, I dunno, JS processing speed or something. I wish MS would fix that.

Ugh. SInce I have a family to support, not just me, I can't run out and buy top of the line gear, but I do have a nice OC 3570K and GTX 950 backed by an SSD, so most games run pretty well at 1080p with the graphics turned up.
