John McAfee offers to eat shoe.
-
"With all due respect to Tim Cook and Apple," writes McAfee, "I work with a team of the best hackers on the planet. These hackers attend Defcon in Las Vegas, and they are legends in their local hacking groups, such as HackMiami. They are all prodigies, with talents that defy normal human comprehension. About 75% are social engineers. The remainder are hardcore coders. I would eat my shoe on the Neil Cavuto show if we could not break the encryption on the San Bernardino phone. This is a pure and simple fact." (Emphasis ours because this is totally the best part.)

GIVE HIM THE PHONE! GIVE HIM THE PHONE!

There is not a bad outcome to this

Awww man that gif is wonderful.

Yup. Remind me to grub my share of popcorn when FBI decided to give the phone to him.

It's from Mongrels, if you haven't seen it then watch it immediately.

Could he have missed the point of Tim Cook's memo MORE?

Sounds like: I work with a team of the best chefs in the world. Those guys have attend a conference in Paris! It's Paris so it has to be great! And so they have to be simply awesome and brillant!
-
I've attended Defcon in Las Vegas. I am apparently a world class hacker.
(Seriously though, I highly recommend it to anyone in any branch of tech. It's a truly fantastic way to be reminded of the vast breadth of the problems we face and just how deep that problem domain goes at any given point. Way better than the "serious" security conferences. Everything is more approachable.)

Maybe I should have put a "...yet" there.

His YouTube video spoof was pretty funny. For all his faults he can still laugh at himself.

Discourse seems to be unwell today. I got a notification 8 minutes after I replied to a response that I had a reply to the original post...

It's always bad, but Discourse has seemed to be significantly worse than usual for the past 3 days or so. What's with all the cootie storms lately?

It's probably @ben_lubar's fault. A few days ago he took a backup of the system (that was when we had the unexpected read-only period) and then downloaded it to an external system (hope he wasn't copying to his system ).

I copied it to my server where it's being imported to a LAN-only NodeBB installation that I'm making sure all the formatting works on.

Is your server at your place or in the cloud?
If you are copying to a physical server at your place, you probably aren't done copying yet.

The forum data compressed VERY well. It was only like a megabyte of data to transfer.

Is he not?
Don't know what's worse, that people like him are presidential candidates in the US, or that he currently looks like the sanest one...

What happened to the 10 fails and wipe?
INB4: If being able to recover deleted files was not an issue to decryption, why the fuss?

that you think that people like him are taken serious as presidential candidates in the US
Libertarian. LOL

Libertarian. LOL
Hey, I voted for a Libertarian once. I happened to know the candidate personally and thought she deserved at least one vote.
-
Don't blame me. I voted for Kodos.
