TIL there's such as thing as a "3d sphere" on Google Maps... some... how...?
Some Android devices have the ability to take a series of pictures and stitch them together into a "photosphere" (it's been available since 4.2). These can then be uploaded to Google Maps for other people to see.

Every Android phone is at least potentially a tiny Google car.

It's not really Google Maps' fault. It's the software that generated the photosphere.

There's a Microsoft product called Photosynth that does the same thing. They used to have a Photosynth app for iOS and Windows devices, but they've evidently discontinued it in favor of the new website.
