Contracts

I've just got about 2 months of money in the savings
The contract market is non-existent here. But is okay towards the North / Ireland.
I am at the point with my CTO listening in on my private phone call (I walked off premise to take it).
I am about to walk out the door ... but I am at that point where I just isn't safe enough money wise to quit.
What do you guys think?
-
I try to never change a job/girlfriend/car/home until I have another.
-
How's the FTE job market?
You'd be cutting it close either way; my uncle's advice (and I've found it to be true) is that any job search, no matter how intensive, won't really kick in for 6 weeks or so.
What you could be doing instead is hitting up the LinkedIn, hitting up your professional network, and see if you can start scoring interviews. If you score 5-10 interviews, you hit the point where it's highly unlikely ALL of them will fall through and you can consider telling your boss goodbye.
If nothing else, hit up your professional network and see how hot the job market is right now. Maybe there's nothing to worry about.
Of course the other option is to drastically reduce your cost of living (aka move in with your parents.)

I have a project that I've massively unestimated and now they suspect I might be looking elsewhere. I am fucked.

I try to never change a job/girlfriend/car/home until I have another.
Three of these are very sensible, the last one makes you a huge asshole.

Three of these are very sensible, the last one makes you a huge asshole.Yeah, it's kind of an asshole move to ask a friend if you can sleep on their couch just because you didn't bother finding another apartment yet.
...
What, were you thinking of a different one?

@Maciejasjmj disagrees, see @Tsaukpaetra's thread
-
What, were you thinking of a different one?
No, but I meant the opposite of what you described in your post. Learn to read.
-
Learn to read.
Yeah, @Dragnslcr, you should def do that!
[poll name="Should Dragnslcr learn to read?"] - Yes - No - FILE_NOT_FOUND - I didn't read the @Tsaukpaetra thread - Fucking another :whore: poll? FUCK YOU WITH A PURPLE CACTUS DILDO! [/poll]Fucking Discourse. E_POLL_NOT_FOUND.
-
[broken poll]
Maybe it's time to break out the md5 trix we learned last week? Seems the @Mention in the title is fscking it up...
-
I try to never change a job/girlfriend/car/home until I have another.
Same here. If contract is sucky, how is full-time? You can bounce between those as needed, I know I have ;)
-
Seems the @Mention in the title is fscking it up...
Yeah, it isn't. Removed it and still not working.
Fuck it, looks like I won't lose my poll virginity today. Fuck it, fuck discourse. I'm going to bed.
Fuck this fucking fucked up fucking piece of fucking dysfunctional fucking software. It's fucking awful and I fucking hate it.
FUCK!
-
FUCK EVERYTHING!
and :dysfunctional::whore: especially with a fucking massive cactus dildo
-

Polls screw up when there is a space in the name
for some reasonbecause poll names don't have spaces.
If your poll name has spaces, you're
-
[poll name="This Poll can has spaces?"]
- Yeah...
- No!
- That's cheating!
- E_Smartbutt_NOT_FOUND
[/poll]
Edit: And Discourse doesn't even show the name anyways, so what's the point?
-
I love how the name of the poll doesn't appear anywhere

I tried to edit that comment in, but Discourse totally 'd it back when you voted.
-
I haven't voted though
-
I
Oh. Well... someone did! ;) And I'm to lazy to go back now and risk the poll getting reset.
Unless... edits automatically vote the first item?
Who knows?
-
I got a demo of something I've been working on.
I have built from scratch:
- SPA that updates dynamically via signal R.
- Social and Regular Sign-ins.
- Charts using canvas.
But it looks like I built two graphs and a two tables ... when in fact I built a full rest auth system, built an app using angular 2.
-
And Discourse doesn't even show the name anyways, so what's the point?
It allows duckhorse to distinguish between multiple polls in the same post.
-
-
2 months of salary or 2 months of expenses?
The former, you are probably fine and can get by on
rice and beanshome meals. The latter and you still need to build your emergency fund.

I think he was implying that being able to afford two homes would make you a huge asshole.
I've not met many rich people, but from my limited dataset there seems to be some veracity to his claim.

You got it backwards - being a huge asshole makes you able to afford two homes.
-
Not necessarily, but I see we've encountered a chicken and egg dilemma.
Filed under: Not to be confused with having a huge asshole making you able to afford two homes

At least we agree there's some correlation.
