ActiveX is bad? Then let them download exes

Word on the street:
South Korean government decides, after hearing that ActiveX is bad, it would avoid using it.So instead of ActiveX, it will let the users download exe files and install them.

Both ActiveX and Java are probably going away in the not-so-distant future.

Well, the link in my previous post was to Oracle's announcement that the Java browser plugin is going away.

Yeah. Now that I look at it.
Although they suggest moving to Java Web Start, which means Java isn't going away, just running in its own window. Probably with more permissions and less sandboxing, too.

WebStart is also sandboxed, I just couldn't tell you the differences between it and applet sandboxing.
Edit: However, there are a bunch of services that can do things like open local files.

Washington State does ok. The Unemployment Office was the worst, but fortunately I haven't had to interact with them in a long while. The Department Of Licensing website is downright pleasant to use.
