What's wrong with the job postings these days?

  • must be able to handle heavy work-loads,
    multi-task efficiently
and be able to switch gears in a moment’s notice
Readiness to give all the effort necessary to do an excellent job - even if it means putting in extra time to research the problem you’re facing

    Whyyyyyy

    Also

6+ years of experience as both a hands-on architect and a software engineer

How do you have that? Work as a junior/entry level for a decade first and then given a chance to fiddle with architecture and do that for 6 years so in total 16 years?

  • This is nothing new, IT postings have always been full of bullshit because they're written by HR people, not techie people.

I still cringe when I remember the job postings when I was first looking for an IT role... must have 5 years experience in development on Windows 2000. Had this been 2005 or 2006 that might have been possible but it sure as hell wasn't in 2002...

  • Garbage Person

Sounds like WtfCorp is shopping for my replacement.

But it's not because that would require summer awareness of what I do.

So what do you do? Do you just ignore what these gobshites are shitting out and apply or avoid these 💩?

It's very new to me since I've never applied for abroad before.

P.S. Why does it keep saying

    Sorry an error has occurred

    and then post my edits?

  • Apply anyway.

Recruiters and hiring managers basically have some expectation that candidates will lie and pad their skill set. Which is why everyone puts every buzzword they can get on their resume, on the basis that it might get past enough of the recruiter/hiring manager filters to get you an interview which is where you sell yourself and your skill set for real.

Also, errors that are successful, it's because Discourse is rubbish.

You probably have the SPDY thing I have. If you start seeing broken images everywhere, go to chrome://net-internals/#export and use the almost invisible menu in the upper right to clear the cache and flush the sockets, then do a hard refresh. It won't make the edit error go away, that seems to live forever.

  • Cheers!

Goddamned you naive fuckers. Job descriptions aren't written by super literal robots.

Everybody knows the "X years of experience" is just a rough guideline. Apply anyway. If you ace the interview they're not going to be like, "well he was a great candidate but he only had 5 years and 9 months of experience..." I guarantee you nobody on the interview panel will even talk about it.

Oh okay. I thought you know, you said 5 years. So it should be 5 years then. Like , say what you mean?

    I understand that that's just a guideline.

Then why the feck do they say "You must..." Say what you mean please.

Yep, if it's in the 'candidate must' list I wouldn't apply unless I had broken that limit on whatever. If it isn't a hard-limit it should be in the 'ideally the candidate should posses' bit.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

I'd apply anyway. Worst thing that'll happen is getting filtered out of the process early on.

    So what do you do?

Is the job beyond your abilities? They want a COBOL programmer, but you aren't. Or it's in a language, but you'd be working with multi-threaded millisecond-lag stock trading. If it is beyond your abilities, ignore it. Otherwise, continue.

Is the job something you want to do? If it isn't, ignore it. If it is, continue.

Does a quick Googling of the company name bring up reams of WTF bullshit? It's a horrible employer, or is being sued, or is an obvious scam/pyramid scheme? If it is, ignore it. Otherwise, continue.

Is the company located somewhere you want to work and/or relocate to? Is the salary somewhat in your range? If not, ignore. Otherwise, contune.

Congratulations! You've found a company to apply to. Send your resume and cover letter (as appropriate). The worst they can do is ignore it or reject you. Otherwise, you'll get an interview and will have a MUCH better idea of it's a company you want to work for.

Caveat / Trump: If the Google search leads to a thread on these forums, instantly reject it.

Depends on what you want. Upside is interviews in these are also often ked by HR people so they can't tell if you don't know the technologies they require. So if you want to be paid for learning those, bullshit the HR peon, get hired, and learn away. But be prepared for the environment with the level of incompetence that this hiring process creates. If you know yout shit in the techs and want to be a superstar, same applies.
If you know your shit and want to be challenged, avoid those and look for some who know what they're talking and making job ads about

Weird, must be a bug. The forum software make's bugtracker is here: https://meta.discourse.org/c/bug?order=op_likes&status=open. Can you create an account and file a bug, please?

  • At least one company has people who know what computers are write the job postings.

  • To be fair, discourse does fuck with the wp10 keyboard, but to be fair to discourse, wp10 keyboard is pretty bad regardless.

The keyboard was the best part of wp7/8, why THE FUCK would they mess with it?

If the level of :wtf: is as high as such a job posting suggests, it's more likely to be the best thing that'll happen, not the worst.

  • yeah, when I have the chance, I tend to choose the best option available. I don't care that everyone's using and pushing AndroShit (/the worst possible option in general) just because it's free.

Same reason I moved away from doing PHP to .NET.

Also, the idea of being a customer to multinational company who are cheapskates and don't mind their users suffer because of that feels... very uncomfortable.

  • Nah, I don't mind it that much. It's kind of strange how the special and accent keys seem... "sprinkled over it" instead of being together on the side, but swipe typing works almost perfect (i just have to get used to using it), and the text cursor/virtual joypad is a feature long needed.

  • @dse said:

    windows-phone-is-dead

yeah, tends to happen to not-shit platforms just because they're not-free.
I don't care. Majority of customers being stupid sheep content with using the sub-par option is no reason for me to pretend I am as well.

  • @sh_code said:

    swipe typing works

I haven't experienced that on discourse. I have to hit the space bar between every word else it eats whatever word I just swiped. And I can't just hit backspace a single time to clear a word it guesses wrong, I have to delete each letter. Doesn't sound like much, but it's enough of a disruption for me to revert to manually pressing each letter, like a freaking cave man. Also, does it always dump select-quotes in at the top of the text box for you, instead of under the cursor like wp8 used to? And FUCKING HELL WHY DOES IT INSERT A NEWLINE UNDER THE CURSOR AND ANOTHER AT THE END OF THE TEXT BOX AND MOVE THE CURSOR TO THE END OF THE TEXT BOX WHEN I PRESS ↵ ONE TIME!

And as for the change from wp8 to wp10: what, did they throw away their entire corpus and start fresh? Its like their word recognition has gotten 10 times dumber. Even when they guess wrong, all the alternate suggestions are way off, and I'm making about fifth-grade-level words, here, although I feel like wp8 was better at getting technical terms, too, almost as if they'd had some bias in their original training set.

I mean, the e-clit's great, sure, but it's just not killer enough of a feature to make up for the overall weaker implementation in 10. I still haven't got back the flow I had on 8, and must have been at least 6 months now.

Still miles ahead of iPhone keyboard, though.

    o.O

Don't know how you came to that conclusion - I've been extremely satisfied with Android.

Unless you're talking about the shitty <$100 phones. Those are (not surprisingly) totally shitty, because they're either new phones with completely crappy hardware (and software, cause it can't run the new stuff) or old phones being sold as new, with crappy hardware and old software.

As long as you stick to Moto/Nexus you'll be OK.

And I couldn't care less about price. I honestly prefer Android. The reasonable prices are just a nice bonus :)
