Apply Now! We offer a demanding task!

Looking through some job postings,
I found some sayWhat we offer:
- Demanding job
- Work with cutting edge technologies
- Energetic team
That's not really what I get. That's actually what you make me do.
Should I avoid companies that try to sell what sounds like bollocks?
-
If that's all they have to say about the job, don't bother with it
-
Energetic team
If they are passionate about what they do, they won't shut up about it.
They won't have to list that they are passionate.
-
Any time someone says they're "passionate" about something in a work environment, I mentally substitute it for "I am a gigantic toolbox". It doesn't change the meaning and it's way funnier.
-
> Work with cutting edge technologies
Either they have buzzword-chasing management where developers always have to keep up with literally bleeding edge libraries or they're listing this in hope of salvaging a job ("someday you can look at that stuff, please fix these little things first").In short:
-
In short:
Yeah I was thinking, Am I too picky or does it actually look like it's offering nothing?
-
That advert offers nothing. But if the tech stack is something you want to work with, sometimes the people who write the advert are just shit at it, and the job itself might be offering something worth your time. Never hurts to apply.
-
Yeah, I guess I can ask whoever is in charge of recruitment. But really, the job posting sounds like it offers nothing that I might want.
-
Are you desperate? If not, skip it. (No shame if you are, the job market can be tough)
-
Desperate enough to want to get out of all the shitstorm I'm getting here.
Not so desperate enough to go into another kind of shitstorm.I guess I could just ask the person to clarify.

@Yamikuronue is very wise, listen to this advice ;)
-
Yeah, go ahead and apply and you can feel out the company when you have your first interview (phone screen or face to face, whichever)
-
I dunno, maybe we should have him test the advice. You know, for the sake of QA.
-
We offer a demanding task!
Just one task, though. If you finish that we've got nothing else for you to do.
-
We have our "Corporate Values" at the top of our Careers page - all very well and good, I guess.
Except that right at the top of the list is;
- Must take criticism well ...
- ...
-
-
I don't know, taking criticism well is a pretty basic skill, isn't it? Then again, in corporate-speak, "taking criticism well" might mean "getting shit on without complaining". Or it could be "know when to find another job", or...
-
taking criticism well is a pretty basic skill, isn't it?
Yeah, but when it's #1 on the list of corporate values, it doesn't promote confidence that the work environment will be pleasant.
-

Well, what would be better is to be constructive and find a solution when faced with an issue, instead of pointing fingers and yelling.
What sort of "solution oriented mind" would that be if your company's #1 value is basically "Suck it up"?
-
Yeah, but setting up an IRL test and staging environment is.... Difficult
-
I'm just going to post this here
-
This is hilarious and I think this could be pretty accurate. All those self boasting and sugar coating.

In short:
It can also mean "We just migrated our SQL Server 2008 R2 database running in 2000 compatibility mode to a fresh SQL Server 2012 install," or "About 10% of our flagship ASP.NET application uses MVC/WebAPI/etc., but the remaining 90% is Webforms that were created between 2004 and 2007 to target .NET 1.1 and later, 2.0."

First day on the job will be:
I want Facebook, but in the cloud. It should appeal to pet owners. Add a feature that automatically memes uploaded cat pictures using facial recognition. The VCs gave us $50k and a month.

TIL I'm a "rockstar developer".
Except for the long hours thing, I just miss the impossible deadlines. And they are so absurd the manager just pretends that when he said friday he meant the other friday.
