No they don't. The vast majority of the time we already have an idea of what new ideas we will like.
Ok, what if, instead of individual thoughts, we are actually a collective, but a segregated collective.
We have a hive mind, that's ordering each of our own thoughts but tailoring them to specialized segregated units, and then using thought competition to make the final selection.
Think about it.
Let's say there's a right wing political person and a left wing political person.
They think they aren't being ordered, but in fact people select information based on filters that the already agree with. So we have these huge massive groups of segregated collectives, so that a large amount of ideas is collected into two or three decision paths (with fringe groups that test out new ideas until they become mainstream) and then those two or three primary set of ideas are allowed to compete for final selection.
Because you don't want final selection to occur in theory, you want final selection to occur in practice where the results are calculated.
In this way, we are more advanced than Zerg in that we decide to sacrifice some efficiency in selection for a more distribution of results. In other words, we don't put all our eggs in one basket.

Hive mind is too strong. There are cultures. Every institution and group of people has a culture. And that's what defines a culture -- the brute fact of who participates, and what they choose to do. So yeah, you can get echo chambers where no outside opinions are even taken into account, just in virtue of the fact that nobody with different opinions belongs to the group).
And yeah, diversity of cultures is a good thing, just like diversity of species is good in nature. Let the _______s try their radical idea, and see how it turns out. We'll (maybe) copy it if it works. And they'll copy our good ideas, if we're culturally close enough to accept them.

Well, my immediate thought was that.
A real hive mind doesn't test the resulting order they get back.
But then I realized that the vast majority of people spend little time testing the ideas critically, they simply do a blind test where it fits in within their subjective expectations. This is ironically true for most groups, even when these groups blame an "opposing" group for acting this way.

While these largegroupthinks exist and compete with each other, it could be viewed as a secondary mechanism of a hive mind that allows for segregation in order to test ideas and not put all their eggs in one basket so to speak.
Someone might say, "but this isn't logical thinking, it's doomed to fail".
Well, it's got us this far...Seriously, on a large scale, reality is really forgiving.
But then again, this "theory" is simply reverse thinking. Starting with an assumption of hive mind, and then making it all fit. Which is why it's a "game theory" and not a serious philosophical/psychological well formed and tested theory.

If we ever get to the point where we are homogeneous / uniform in a single culture, it will be functionally indistinguishable from a hive mind?
I've got this gut feeling that as long as you belong to what you are suggesting is a hive mind, you and those you suggest belong to it, won't be able to falsify the idea.
