Discopassword reset
-
I've never had to reset my password here before, but just did on a different Discourse instance.
I'm not sure why I expected better, but:
- where's the "Confirm password" textbox?
- why does the reset password page (which you can only get to from the link in the password reset email) have a Log In button?
-
-
1. where's the "Confirm password" textbox?
You don't need one, as mistyping your password is
-
where's the "Confirm password" textbox?
If it's easy to reset it again, I like sites that don't make me type it twice. It's not like I don't know how to use a keyboard and to type carefully when I'm doing something like that.

If it's easy to reset it again
QUIZ TIME!
Which is easier?1 - type the password a second time
2 - typo it the first time, then not realise and try the 'correct' password only to fail and then give up and request another reset, click the link, go back to the same fucking page and type it more carefully
Which is the accepted standard for setting a password?1 - type it twice
2 - type it once and hope you don't type it wrong
-
You forgot the option:
- don't be dumbass and type it correctly the first time, or use your browser's "unmask" button
Which is pretty easy, and works 90% of the time. The extra 30s it takes the other 10% of the time is offset by the extra 5s I saved the first 9 times.
-
or use your browser's "unmask" button
Does Chrome have one of these?
Pretty much everyone typos at some point, it's such a trivial problem to have a "Confirm password" box that not bothering is just fucking retarded - even on Discourse levels of retardedness, it's fucking retarded.

Not that I've seen. But then I've never looked.
-
Meh. I think it's alright. I don't think Chrome does, but I know IE and Edge do. (Yes, IE is TR but it's common in enterprise)
-
It's not that common, but I don't see the unmask button as a problem. BB10 has it, including in its browser. Just let someone confirm their fucking password.

You forgot the option:
- don't be dumbass and
type it correctly the first time, or use your browser's "unmask" buttonuse a password manager to generate and insert your password
Which is pretty easy, and works
9099% of the time
FTFY
- don't be dumbass and

Haven't there been bugs logged about Discourse fucking with password managers?
-
I wouldn't be surprised seeing how just about anything in Discourse can be described as "that's a bug, not a feature".
Personally I haven't had trouble using Password Safe though.

I'm going to give Diskhorse the benefit of the doubt here, but that "At least 8 characters." message looks a lot like a validation failure and not like an informational message.

Knowing Discourse, I wouldn't be surprised if they emailed it to you. Yeah....
Filed under: Body is too similar to what you recently posted
Also filed under: Shitting fuck Discourse why the fuck does making a successful post cause an error

Which is easier?
3- Mistype the password twice consistently (laptop on the chest on the bed)
Which is the accepted standard for setting a password?
3- Have an sneak-peak button to show the password (with icon being something close to )

If it's there before you start typing I think there'd be no confusion. Though since the box is empty at that point it could be either..
