Regex gone wrong? Clbuttic rides again

  • I was on a forum where apparently they've had a problem with trolls using the "n word", so of course they decided to whip up a bad word filter that would change the offensive word (and apparently several variations) to "african".  Then somebody noticed that their post about Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts came out as "Johafricanoberts".

Somehow,  the word "negro" does not trigger the bad word filter but the letter combination  JohN G. ROberts  does.   Interestingly (or maybe not) removing the period after the  g  would allow it to pass through the bad word filter unchanged.

    Drop the O.

maybe the regexp is s/n.g..r/african/i or similar.

Presumabily this country will be safe then too.

  • Racists are notoriously bad spellers.  A long time ago, in my hometown, a black family moved into a previously all white neighborhood.  Some of the yocals decided they would take action into their own hands, so they vandalized the apartment building where the family lived.  This was bignews in our podunk county.  On the front page of the paper was a headline reading "KKK in Springfield?" and a picture of a door spraypainted with a barely legible "Go home nigers!"

  • "Romanes eunt domus"? No, no, the grammar's all wrong! You need to use "Romani", because it's the subject of the sentence... then "ite" is the imperative form for "go"... and last but not least, "domus" is the nominative form, not the accusative form... it should say "Romani ite ad domum"... Hey, wait a second... "Romani ite ad domum"? "Romans go home"??? Why, you sniveling traitors!

Did finding such a filter make you aafricany at the people who implemented it?
