Brave Browser -- Discuss

Looks like it is basically Firefox, but with Ad-Block and Ghostery baked-in.
They say they will eventually allows non-intrusive ads, but for now, no ads.Thoughts?
-
Let's see... I could use a browser that was made by the people who made Firefox, or I could not do that and use an extension to get the exact same thing, with the added bonus that it works on my dhromebook.
-
I'll stick with Chrome and uBlock Origin
-
No mention of tech specs, or beta downloads. But github repo seems to be based on Electron. Meaning it's probably just a reskined chrome.
They don't mention any other features or benefits. Seems all they do is package an add block with the browser (maybe give it a bit deeper integration on desktop).
Fail.

Someone mentioned today that Brave recently re-wrote the entire ad-blocking engine in Rust. I thought that was curious.

@El_Heffe I installed it. It has a "Rewards" program that theoretically works like this:
- Each user automatically gets a wallet for their own cryptocurrency (because how else would you store a single number per account, amirite)
- You get ads, not in pages but "shown separately from your browsing experience" (so notifications? Not sure what else it would be). You get crypto-money from watching these ads.
- Optionally, the browser sends some of that money to the pages you visit the most (the pages need to set up a wallet as well, of course).
Except at part 2 I just see "ads coming soon", so that kinda breaks the whole thing.
So just another company that thought they could reinvent something with blockchains and didn't think about the many problems that need to be solved to achieve that thing.

Isn't Brave that browser that let you donate to content creators through its interface, except the content creators didn't actually have to sign up for it and so any that didn't would just have their 'donations' accepted on their behalf to finance the service?
e: Yes it fucking is. I knew I remembered that name. https://what.thedailywtf.com/post/1458728

@anonymous234
Yes, I read about their theoretical ad program a while back, and I quit reading at "gets a wallet for their own cryptocurrency", because-
Cryptocurrency is bullshit
-
I'm going to block anything and everything that I don't want to see
-
I don't give a shit about some fractions of pennies they are going to pay me, and that I will have to jump through hoops to turn into a tiny amount of real money that isn't worth the hassle.
-
Since I'm blocking everything, and don't give a shit about getting paid, I might as well just use Chrome, except Chrome and all Chrome-based browsers suck, so I don't.
-
As I mentioned in a different thread, the people working on Brave can't even properly answer user questions because they don't understand how their own browser works.
