Mashup Challenge $100,000 prize - WTF if Spectate Swamp wins?

  • NetSquared how many projects did you pull?

At Swamp Shack I could show you the #2 and #3 programs of all time. By Me. Simple and powerful. What any new programmer needs. Will work in any language. Used during 15 years of Telco and cablesystem billing conversions. Then maybe #4 my automation of the Rural gas co-op mapping system. Way ahead of its time. And the lessons learned are easily transferable. The cattle system for the largest feedlot in Western Canada had some high points. Still lots to show and share. Who shares their video, pictures bla bla bla better than Spectate Swamp. Nobody. Some of you just share your opinions and nothing else. Because you don't have this great collaboration tool. Can't do video like me and my swampies do. Can't explore with video. And NetSquared pulls this project. I would have made them lonely at their so called contest. Everybody would be at SwampShack booth.

  • Stop replying to him... Damnit stop! This is desk search part 2!

Ever try convincing a 3 year old who keeps asking "why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why"?

You can't, you just leave it at "you want to jump off the third floor? go ahead, i promise i won't stop you!"

I thought this has long since stopped being about SS and has become more like a comedic art experiment. But you're right though, this thread needs more Desktop Search and less Paranormal Weirdness. This is, after all, an IT forum.

No, no, no, no, SpectateSwamp! This will not do! As a budding Ufologist, you're supposed to find a crowd that automatically accepts whatever shady conclusions you're drawing from the footage, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. If you walk in a certified "alternative theory" forum and even then someone immediately (cluefully enough) calls bullshit, you're obviously doing it wrong!

And that was a year ago, and you haven't improved a bit! Seriously, work on your grammar, learn a bit of pseudo-educated-sounding gibberish, learn how to write a bit more dramatically, watch Loose Change four times for good inspiration - then present the world your irrefutable proof and explanation of unexplained phenomena and the positive identification of the UFOs! (Er, wait.)

  • Scrap SSDS

SpectateSwamp, here's what you should do:

    a) give up your ambition of desktop searching - it's just no good

    b) focus on UFO searching - you have some potential there.

Now, if your program would automatically analyse random videos, draw red circles around potential UFOs and wake you up with a loud beeping noise, then we'd have something to talk about.

  • @SpectateSwamp said:

And NetSquared pulls this project. I would have made them lonely at their so called contest. Everybody would be at SwampShack booth.

    Let's summarize, shall we?

    • Netsquared rejects your project: it's a conspiracy
    • Forums lock your threads and ban you:  it's because of "plants"
    • You lose the election: also because of "plants"
    • You get fired: your boss is a jerk
    • Nobody is interested in your UFO videos : we're all closeminded
    • Nobody cares about your stones: we're all ignorant
    • Nobody wants to use SSDS: we're all ClueLess

Spectate, doesn't it seem odd to you that ALL YOUR FAILURES ARE SOMEBODY ELSE'S FAULT?  I mean, your only "success" stories are either mundane (getting a job in IT, running as the joke candidate in an election) or completely unverifiable ("making it rain during the '86 Expo", "causing a downturn in the stock market", "cursing your former employer").  A normal person would look at those failures and draw different conclusions.  If I were in your shoes (:shiver:), I might view those failures completely differently:

    • Netsquared rejects my project: I guess it wasn't good enough, or it didn't fit the contest criteria
    • Forums lock my threads and ban me: I guess I was too annoying and off-topic
    • I lose the election: I guess I was the wrong man for the job
    • I get fired: I guess I took off too much time travelling abroad to curse the United Nations in an attempt to force the legalization of marijuana
    • Nobody is interested in my "UFO videos": I guess videos of bugs and leaves are lame.
    • Nobody cares about my stones: I guess stones with holes in them aren't so mysterious after all
    • Nobody wants to use my lame "search application": I guess it just isn't useful to anyone but me.

You've shown us plenty of articles and videos which make you look like an idiot, failure, or lunatic.  I really have to wonder why you are proud of those moments?  If I were you, I would've burned all copies of those articles (like the one which suggested you have rocks in your head) and I would've deleted most of your videos (like the Spectate Spruce Hen video).

Can you show us one article which reads: "Doug Pederson had a great accomplishment which made his family, friends and neighbours proud".  Can you show us one video where a friend or family member says: "Boy, that SSDS sure came in handy that one time I needed to find a word at the end of a 2 GB text file!"  Can you show us a video of your "top dino/alien hunter" buddies, where they vouch for your credentials?

Let me guess - programs #2 and #3 (of all time) are: Spectate Swamp Accounts Payable Manager and Spectate Swamp Relational Database Server.   I'm guessing that each consists of a large text file containing company data, as well as a renamed copy of SSDS.exe.  Right?

    @superdudedude said:

Uhm... are you really using a camcorder to record a video playing on your television? Shouldn't you just directly turn the video into an MPG or AVI file and upload that for us to review? If there are potential unidentified objects in your videos, your current video's are just introducing more interfering artifacts, making it impossible to verify what you are looking at.

If you start with your raw video footage and import it into Adobe Premier or other such Video editor at full quality you can easily zoom in to areas of the scene that interest you and determine if there are objects of interest, versus blobs on the screen that cannot be verified as anything, except possibly bugs/leaves/floating tree debris.

So it begins all over again...

Maybe you've answered this at some point and I missed it, but I'm actually curious about your background.  What programming languages do you know, and what languages did you use?  Were you always working in different dialects of BASIC, or do you have, like, a C background or something?  I want to believe you know LISP, for some reason.

The people in Yappy and Lazy forum don't capture anything worth showing. Not like SpectateSwamp. I would love to give you a complete showing of "last years trapping season" up here at the SwampShack. Please try and structure sentance, reading is so much easier when the material being read is formed from proper use of punctuation and grammar - just a hint for free.

Have you considered the possibility that people here aren't showing videos or pictures of rocks because this isn't a forum for displaying videos and pictures of rocks? The clue is in the logo really i.e. "curious perversions in information technology" - why do you seem to think this means you getto spout your own inane drivel on whatever random topic drifts through your drug addled mind?

You get good video by shooting lots.

Is that like saying you can earn a lot of money by walking around and picking up all the pennies you see? I'd rather hold down a steady job and earn $50 instead of wandering all day and "earn" up $0.01.

You don't get "good" video by shooting lots. You get lots of bad video, of which a small little portion will be accidentally "good". But again, that's like saying a steaming pile of shit is good because a flower started growing out of the pile.

You get good video by learning how to properly frame, track, pan, scan, zoom, etc... And by learning what's interesting to shoot and what's not. And most definitely by learning how to use a video editor so you can cut out the steaming shit piles and leaving only the flowers.

Why do you persist in uploading 2+ minute videos and say "the intersting part is at 50.03 - 51.97"? You complain about how long it takes to upload, so why don't you learn to use those "stupid" video editors and cut out the bits of video that aren't useful? Uploading 2 minutes of bad video, or uploading 2 seconds of good stuff. Which is better? Obviously it's the 2+minute vide.

That's what you get when you don't edit. You get reality.

Indeed. We get the reality that you are utterly incompetent in everything you do. It's amazing you retain enough intelligence to keep breathing and blinking.

  • Where is PopCornedSwamp when you need him?

Old NeowinSwamp himself must have got his arm twisted to drop my tobacco leaf flyer post. Don't see any response from PopCornedSwamp asking WHY. How come? Scared he will get a post deleted like poor poor old SpectateSwamp. I was on topic. There is a conspiracy.

Bollocks were they. Provide a link or stop lying. Also, curse someone, you buffoon.

edit: Here are some interesting Google results...

Your search - "Thanks for taking me on the trapline with you" - did not match any documents.

    Suggestions:

    • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
    • Try different keywords.
    • Try more general keywords.
    • Make sure you're not searching for a phrase invented by a dishonest moron.

You are behaving even more moronic than usual. This makes no sense. If you are talking about stones, aliens, video editing or any similar topic on an IT forum you cannot claim to be on topic. I seriously doubt anyone together enough to start a conspiracy would waste their effort on you.

You use archive.org, youtube.com and google.com to share your videos and pictures with us.  Did you create those websites, or were they create by multimillion-dollar organizations with no connection to you or SSDS?
I am very picky what I upload to archive.org. It is the only one that does a download of the original file. They don't seem to allow for a delete file either. As for Google and YouTube I can remove videos if they want me to. The political ones would be the first to go. Good to see your concern though SimianSwamp

I know this is too much to ask, but COULD YOU PLEASE STOP TAKING POSTS OUT OF CONTEXT AND MAKING IRRELEVANT REPLIES?  I know you enjoy "riling the forum up", but this is really too much.

    Here is my original post:

In case you missed it, it is the Internet and various websites that allow you to share video and pictures.  If you did not invent the Internet and if you do not own youtube, archive.org and google, THEN YOU CAN STOP BRAGGING ABOUT HOW "SSDS ALLOWS YOU TO SHARE VIDEO" AND "SSDS IS THE WORLD'S GREATEST COLLABORATION TOOL".

THE INTERNET IS YOUR COLLABORATION TOOL, NOT SSDS.

(Feel free to take my post out of context and make a completely pointless, irrelevant reply.  I can't stop you, and I know you'll do it, anyway)

I think the interesting thing to note about [SpectateSwamp's old] post [on another forum] (and a few others ones in that thread) is that Swampy was still capable of using commas at this point.

Someone here observed that Swampy's proficiency at grammar  seems to fluctuate post-by-post, which gave him the impression Swampy was, in fact, several people.  Personally, I think he's one guy (multiple personalities don't count), but he likes to use bad spelling and grammar to piss people off (classic troll behaviour).   I think he realizes how annoying it is when he uses periods instead of commas, inserts commas where none are called for, and capitalizes the beginning of every syllable.  On the other hand, his habit of repeating words 3 times for emphasis seems to be a tick he picked up from real life ("Yellowhead Yellowhead Yellowhead".)

Boy are you nieve. Posts get taken down all the time. eg (NeoWin) For many reasons. Most of my really good posts are gone. I went 1 step too far for somebody somewhere. Don't know what it was. Anyway it's a great way to test the boundaries for freedom on the net. They are there. Everybody is an editor when they hear and see things they don't like. Spectate Swamp makes it easy to push those boundaries by collaborating and sharing that information. When you get banned you know you are on track. My abovetopsecret posts are picking up. Maybe that's more my kinda group.

He's totally naive.  It's obvious you were just paraphrasing.  I'm sure those posts actually exist, unless somebody has taken them down.  It's so easy to delete things when you run a website.  Good thing I burn a copy of everything to DVD.  That way I know I'll always have it.

But let's get back to my previous questions that you didn't answer: "Maybe you've answered this at some point and I missed it, but I'm actually curious about your background.  What programming languages do you know, and what languages did you use?  Were you always working in different dialects of BASIC, or do you have, like, a C background or something?"

SpectateSwamp, is that you?  Just kidding.  I save interesting stuff from the web, especially news articles, since most news sites want to charge for articles more than a few weeks or months old.  However, I do not copy and paste everything into a gigantic text file.  Guess I'm just stubborn and ClueLess.

Pretty neat clips, thanks for sharing them :thumbsup1:

Spectate should stick to the forums where he's wanted and where he can actually make himself useful.
