Can't rename long topic properly on ipad, but other people on PCs can, which results in really long topic titles which I am unable to edit on my iPad, and I don't enjoy that fact one bit.
-
So I just tried to rename the new year resolutions topic. The title is long and it shows me the end of the topic in the edit box.
However some coding horror has made it so I can't use the magnifying glass on hold to select my place and thus scroll to the start... So I had to (carefully) convince it to let me select all, copy, paste elsewhere, edit, copy, paste back.

Safari or Chrome?
-
iPad Safari on iOS 9.1
-
In an unscientific test, it's broken the same way with iPhone Chrome on iOS 9.2.
There are more iOS hacks in more up-to-date Discourse.
Not that it probably helps Chrome as Chrome on iOS is UnJeffSupported.
-
So another "fixing an edge case that breaks useful behaviour" case.
-
-
That isn't what I meant. They put in code specifically to do something to limit selectivity, which is some kind of edge case vs being able to select properly there...

I got the cheap joke you were trying to make but it wasn't funny enough to acknowledge
I mean, Edge is something of a joke but all the browsers have their foibles.

quelle surprise - cheval du disque has le malfuntions on iOS

What, no kimchi? Bunch of amateurs...

What's the song there? <and please, PLEASE don't say Darude - Sandstorm>

I WILL NEVER NOT POST THAT VIDEO.
Great, but I'll never not post the best version ever in response:

Don't be dissin' Young Frankenstein! (It's pronounced fronk-on-shteen)
-
Good news and bad news.
Good news, there's a way to get it to do the magnifying glass in the topic title editor. Tap out of it, then back in, and it'll be available, and the text field will start from the beginning of the title once you tap back in.
Bad news, you can't get the title text field to "scroll" the text at that point, so you can't get to the latter part of the title again without deleting a large chunk.
The same trick works for the post editor (most of the time), but scrolling there still works I believe.
-
Good news: partially able to work around Discourse's bullshit
Bad news: Discourse has too much bullshit

Don't be dissin' Young Frankenstein!
I wasn't dissin' it. I liked Blakey's post, and I called it "great" in my response. But classic Fred Astaire is better.
fa_spin is a thing; need fa_tap, an animated emoji of F.A. dancing.
-
But classic Fred Astaire is better.
You realize the exact joke is that the Frankenstein monster is an awful singer. I mean there's more to it than that. (A neurosurgeon choosing a song and dance number to demonstrate his science experiment isn't dangerous, for example, then the audience also of respected neurosurgeons immediately throwing a seemingly magically-appearing supply of rotten cabbages when the act goes bad.) But yeah.
Of course Fred Astaire is better. That is the point.
-
Fun fact: long post titles like this one extend the read-next section at the bottom of the topic greatly.
Your daily dose of Trivia has concluded. Your original programming will now resume.
-
You realize the exact joke
Yes; yes, I do. And it's very funny. However, any series of posts with various versions of "Puttin' on the Ritz" must included the best one. Since it is indisputably the best, there is no reason not to say it's the best. But maybe rather than restating the obvious, I should have said the "any series of posts..." bit, instead.
Whatever. This has nothing to do with renaming long topics, and we've now completely killed whatever humor there may have been in the digression.

Also I've rebooted this computer entirely and tooltips in Chrome still aren't working. Hm.
I wonder if the Corsair software for this mouse is doing something? I wonder if the problem started when I plugged in the Corsair mouse...
EDIT: yup. Theory confirmed. The Corsair mouse utility app breaks tooltips, but only in Chrome. Huh.
-
The Corsair mouse utility app breaks tooltips,
But no, fuck the Razer I recommended you get!
-
I could plug in the Redragon mouse, but. I like this Corsair one. And I don't need the utility app until I'm ready to change a setting on it, so no biggie. I just removed it from the startup list.
-
The Corsair mouse utility app breaks tooltips, but only in Chrome. Huh.
Wow. That belongs in the sidebar.
-
Well feel free, but I don't have any information other than that one sentence.
-
Yeah, but how do you take a screenshot of a tooltip not appearing... you'd need a video to even show what was happening, and you'd still probably have to explain that you expected to see a tooltip.
-
Yeah, but how do you take a screenshot of a tooltip not appearing...
Urgh, stop reminding me of all the bug reports I dealt with last week. Here's a screenshot of some UI elements not appearing...
