Discourse Truffle Shuffle

Continuing the discussion from In other news today...:
snip.....
I think the level of incident reports of this new discofomena now requires its own topic...
-
Shouldn't this topic be in the Bug category?
-
I did consider that particular branch of Meta, but as a software developer I get unhappy if somebody identifies a new "feature" of mine as a bug. Besides, there is always the jeffing option.
-
Who cares if Jeff is unhappy though?
Besides, there is always the jeffing option.
For you, sure ;)

This one can't be new.
-
Not that I want to be considered pedantic or anything, but "new" has a relative distance value from "old" and an even more tenuous distance relationship to "now"
Besides, it's not like the "issue" has only been recently (for a given value of recent) reported and the general impression I get from these reports is that there is an implied or attached
-
This issue has been there forever.

Replying to post 392 RaceProUK
Because this is where the truffle shuffle dumped me
Whilst it could be called a post, a more accurate word would be "stump"
As for containment, I don't think your average fox would be "stumped" for a way of escape for longI think I have the "answer", because we had the exact same issue at iInesat with streamed data to the "grids".
In simple English: Something is calculating the physical length, probably something scalar like "pixels", of the Topic. Using that value, it positions the "focus" at that location, Then the images load, and the calculation is not updated.
-
Just went to see who liked my post (in some other topic), which was the last in the topic. Clicked on the "likes", got dumped 10 or 30 posts up topic
-
Welcome to Dickhorse.
-
Again. This time the "raw" button. This time the 1st post. As there were only 26 posts in the topic, I am going to go with "top of current 'page'"
-
Suggestion: Create a bot with mod powers. It creates a single topic with a single post. Every few seconds, it Jeffs it between two categories.
How many seconds until Discourse shits itself to death because of some dumbfuck architectural decision about how category moves?
-
Discourse re-optimizes user avatars on every topic move or creation to ensure the avatar is up to date

.... oh.... yeah, no.
-
The name is misleading. The @shadowmod account has admin authority but not moderator powers.

be that as it may, doesn't admin grant topic jeffing anyway?
that's the only level of moderator power we need for the experiment.
heck, I've got that level of moderator power!
i think @sockbot and @zoidberg have lost it because discourse changed how they register topic opens and their read script doesn't handle the new form. but they at one point had that power too!

@accalia has summoned me, and so I appear.

Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor.
