Petition to rename "Like" to "Acknowledge"
-
[poll type="multiple"]
- I'm gonna have like 50 Acknowledges
- Does this mean we need an Acknowledges thread?
- I refuse to Acknowledge this post.
- There should be a requirement of Acknowledging 5 posts per quarter to get into the lounge.
[/poll]
-
I find it objectionable that I can't vote for any given option more than once, on a poll that allows multiple votes.
-
What does this require, some CSS magic and stuff? Or what?
-
I'd vote for "I refuse to Acknowledge this post," but voting would be an acknowledgement.

What, the poll? No,
[poll]
...[/poll]
tags, and I think starting each line in the block with a-
(or maybe some other characters like*
will work, too). I think the multi-select is an attribute of the[poll]
tag, but I don't remember the exact syntax, and CBA to look it up.

Totally paradoxical, bro! 🤘
-
No, changing "Like" to "Acknowledge."

Ah, well, that's why I asked "What, the poll?" Because it wasn't clear what "this" referred to in "What does this require?"

Have we reached that point where we start to bikeshed?
Because I would totally petition to rename "topic" to "thing we derail" and poll should just be called "E_OPTION_NOT_FOUND" with a slightly more blueish color.Filed Under: Aren't you writing the exporter anyway?
Also Filed Under: Also, yes, I got the joke, I just chose to play along with it!

Rename "topic" to "madness"

This post is deleted!

I petition for a fuck you button. It would reduce the amount of typing I would have to do and improve the mobile experience.

Polls are created by ...
Yeah, I know. I didn't remember all the details and CBA to look it up, especially when I wasn't even sure that's what he was asking (which, it turns out, he wasn't).
-
which, it turns out, he wasn't
But let's derail the rest of the topic talking about it. Sounds like fun to me!
I mean, it's gonna derail anyways right?
-

One thing you can do is to look at the existing votes, and then attempt to level things out.
-
NodeBB has downvotes, but they are anonymous
-
That just won't convey message I've intended.
-
I wouldn't trust Discourse to keep anything anonymous.
-
Your post is four words too long.

Rather than just like or downvote, why not having full spectrum of reactions of Vanilla forums - Agree, Disagree, Like, WTF and LOL?. Very good at preventing excessive posts and way more discriminating that a single like. There are a lot of posts here that I would mark with a LOL but not with a heart.

..."Sweaty"? What the actual fuck...
Actually, just have every emoji be a reaction. How else would you express that the post feels , or ?
-
How about we bikeshed any post of a certain length or less to be just the contents of the post without any way of interacting with or seeing who wrote it.
That way, posts that are just single images won't clutter up the forum's UI with how @cregox was the person to email you two penises.
Filed under: proposals that dismiss themselves in the second paragraph

Totally agreed
https://meta.discourse.org/t/like-vs-favorite-vs-cookies-or-reaction/35653
But there should never be a default "Positive" or "Negative" tag to reactions. You could let people tag as they will, though.
Text searchable emoji actions filled with last used + favorite ones by you is definitely the way to go! :)
without any way of interacting with or seeing who wrote it.
Not following the reasoning or the real advantage.
But for not cluttering up the UI, again, follow facebook lead. Just make it all smaller.

I want separate buttons for "acknowledge" and "like"...just renaming the "like" button does nothing for me.
That's because there are some posts I enjoyed, that I would prefer to "like". And then there's the posts where I want to say, "Yeah, I saw your post, ." That needs another button.
-
I like posts for lots of reasons. I might agree with it. I might find it funny. I might want to "reward" the author for expressing his opinion the way he did.
We are probably the community most open to testing the sort of hypotheses put forth in this thread, but they'll never know now...

What? Can't a guy troll from beyond the suspension?

Sure, but the

There is a Discourse plugin for that
