Lenovo Outlet Aggrevation

  •  This isn't much of a WTF, but has been frustrating.  I ordered a ThinkPad from Lenovo's outlet; these are machines that were built only to be returned unopened or have ther orders cancelled after assembly--so I presume they're in their boxes on a warehouse shelf just in need of a shipping label and a push out the door...

Well after placing an order (keyword is AFTER) I get the details that it will take 1 to 3 business days to confirm the order, then 7 to 10 days to "prepare" the order, then 3 to 5 days to ship the order.  Grand total (including UPS time) is 11 - 18 days for a laptop that's ready and waiting for a home.  The best part: I talked to my assigned sales guy who offered me a discount overnight shipping for close to $100.  So That means it could be as speedy as 9 - 14 days!

So far it has taken 1 day to confirm the order, 6 days to "prepare" it, and it has now been in limbo between preparing and shipping for some time.   The best part?  over 50% of the time that I try to pull up the status page I get a blank page that only has the text "dfdf".  When looking at it through elinks I'm informed it's an SSL issue.

     I just want my laptop!

  • This is very much along the lines of classic cargo cult programming. They see how Dell run their business with this kind of "quality" service, think "they do that and got rich, so if we give previsely the same level of service we will be rich too", and there ya go.

Of course, if my theory is correct, expect your laptop to turn up in 3 weeks time, only it will be the wrong laptop. Then do not expect to get the one you ordered until legal threats are made.

  • If I have to take it that far then it will be making a detour to ColorWarePC on the way here, and Lenovo willpickup the bill.  Mmmm Coffee Brown T61 :)
