Bus Èireann

  • Hi to all,

I just wanted to plan a bus trip in Ireland. But I think it's best for you to try it yourself...

Go to http://194.106.151.88/jplan/bin/query.exe/en? and use the calendar. But be careful, you will nede Java for that. When you found a convenient date JavaScript is used to "transfer" it into the form.

    Enjoy your trip to Ireland.

Edit: It seems like this thing was made in Germany.

  •  Well, it does work, though.  For me, anyway.  Quite nice and responsive too.  But yes, I agree that one could probably find a simpler way to accomplish this task.

Which is a WTF because of java loading time. But you can just browse with noscript and type those values by hand - I would probably never notice that calendar. Also that's a new mod - java calendar was surely not available year ago. Maybe next version will have flash / js.

And used in half of Europe:
    Germany: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
    Poland: http://rozklad.pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/pn
    Italy, France, Switzerland: http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en
    Belgium: http://plannerint.b-rail.be/bin/query.exe/en?L=b-rail
    etc.

Some standard at last :) and it's working pretty well.

I had to check the trip planner of the German Railway as I've used their system before and never noticed anything like this. Sure enough, on the bahn.de website the calendar is implemented entirely in JavaScript.

    They're using "Software/Data: HAFAS 5.22.DB.R5.05.a [5.22.DB.R5.00.l/5.00.32_data:47c7f6a2] 212.5" while the Polish Railway (with Java calendar) runs " Software/Dane: HAFAS 5.02.PKP.4.5 - 16.03.08"

The Polish version looks exactly like the Irish site. Looks like it's been changed somwhere in the version 5 release cycle.

  • I just had a look on their new version. They can do a lot better
