How to Avoid Incidents on Systems-Management

While we were trying to find out, why a new application we had recently intalled in our production environment, we found the following gem in one of the logfiles:
[Info] Creating APPxx Crash dump (1)
This was the only indication what might have gone wrong. The application is a client/server app and this entry was from one of the server's logs in c:\windows\program files\appxx
And You might guess where the CrashDump was found :
C:\windows\temp

At least you found it. It wasn't cleaned up automatically and it didn't contain 722 similar dumps, each taking up 400 Mb.
Did you find out what made it crash? I've got a feeling there could be more WTF there.
