Beauty lies past the smog
-
I just thought I'd show you were I live, so you never make the mistake to visit Kraków during late autumn all the way through winter and including early spring.
The smog is worse than the pictures shows, unfortunately it's not photogenic enough.
Case in point: I had to run to catch a tram last night, I felt like after a long night of smoking (and drinking, but that's not due to smog).
Yeah, Kraków is the third worst city in the EU when it comes to air pollution. It gets that bad come late autumn/winter, when people start turn on heating and Start using cars more extensively.
-
TRWTF is that 70kph limit, right?
Hard to see much smog in the photos, really. Maybe it's time to bring out a vacuum cleaner.

Yeah, I was afraid of that, iPhone camera doesn't do it justice and I couldn't really judge it's quality on the small screen.
But I got this:
Hourly data from today. The top ok level is 50 and 20/25 respectively.

So... can you slice the air with a knife already, or not quite yet?

Yeah, this joke used to be about Silesia, it's not anymore.
It's a great thing for the homeless: they can cut the smog into bricks and build an igloo.

Your safe levels appear to be off for the second numbers:
http://m.grainger.com/content/qt-236-carbon-monoxide-facts
Carbon monoxide, on the other hand, your safe level is way off, and the levels you have there are well below the 8-hour exposure threshold.

Carbon monoxide
Was never really a problem. PM10 and PM2.5 are, though.
Here, take a look average daily levels since the start of December:
edit
There's even a nice chart.

Not Pekin but Madrid is worst:

Ok, you might be able to see it now:
Yup, I'm like half a kilometer from those blurred buildings

Ah....reminds me of the good old days in Los Angeles.

Spend a week in Beijing and it'll probably give you a new perspective on how smoggy it is where you are now.

I'll pass, since I'd probably die. I've asthma.
And you'd have no one to post South Park memes all over the forums, again.

I did just that two years ago. We arrived on a beautiful, clear Sunday. We thought the smog might be just internet hyperbole, but it kept getting worse as the week went on. By Friday, we could not see the top of the ~10 story building across the street. Eyes stung like shit, too.
-
But could you see the floating city above the clouds?

I'm looking into buying one of those things. People are supposed to be able to run in Beijing thanks to those.

That looks more like an elevation training mask (makes it more difficult to breath to build up your lung strength through pulmonary resistance.)

But it's not. There are two filters in there:
@Cinqro Mask said:
Inside each Cinqro™ box are two filters; one already fitted in the mask, the other a spare. The two included are; a Hepa-Type particle filter and a DACC™ chemical/particle filter. The Hepa-Type, filters out fine respirable, sub-micron dusts. The DACC™ filters out primary pollutants associated with vehicle exhaust emissions. Both are interchangeable making the Cinqro™ mask suitable for use in a wider variety of environments from inner cities to the countryside.
Plus, as for the ease of breathing:
@Cinqro said:
The two new Powa™ Elite valves on the Cinqro™ mask allow for faster air flow when working out at elevated breathing patterns, i.e. when you are giving it the beans from A to B.
So yeah, it's pretty awesome.

But it's not.
Ah - Google lied to me - that image came up first on a search for elevation training mask.

They probably make also those kinds of masks, too. They offer an extensive number of products.
Have you ever used such a mask?

No. I don't go running
Seen a few joggers round Newcastle with them though. While I was outside having a cigarette...

Ahhh, you're English, of course you have a local League weekly in a local pub!
Any particular kind?
-
If I understand the intent of your question, pubs in the UK, apart from 'Sports Bars' are very rarely themed.

Nah, I was referring to this British local community cult pictured archetype, as they picture it in Midsomer Murders.
Oh, and quiz nights!
But seriously, which kind of pool games do you play?
-
It's not Þe Yolde Pub style - just a local community pub.

Current rules: http://www.epa.org.uk/wrules.php (Eight Ball.)
Proposed rules: http://www.wpa-pool.com/web/index.asp?id=120&pagetype=rules (Blackball.)
-
Curious, why do you want to change the rules from Eight Ball?
BTW, heh, now, I finally get your avatar.

They're "old" - lots of other leagues (i.e. most of them) use Blackball - theoretically it puts players in our league not used to them at a disadvantage (due to muscle memory e.g.) if we play other leagues.
BTW, heh, now, I finally get your avatar.
That has nowt to do with pool
