SuperValidation

I wonder which fields are required?

  • Calling the Reverse-Anonymization Bot...

  •  And the bot sayeth: http://www.wsw.com/webcast/mcm8/

  •  Awesome. I didn't even notice the popup until I tried it.

Its a .NET page, but they went beyond the standard .NET validators which just provide the red error messages. I wonder what sort of genius thought of that.

    how did you do that?

  • I don't really see this as a WTF, except for the poor DOM manipulation that caused the bulleted text to overlap.  A lot of users people need to have things beaten over their head.  Another possible WTF: The warnings are not all in BIG RED LETTERS.

Not a WTF.  Not anonymized.  Enjoy your mug

    FAIL.

Go to the site and submit the form. Its epic fail.

FF3b3 displays everything correctly. And I kind of agree with Belgarion that while it isn't a pretty solution, and could have been done better using the standard validation, this isn't a WTF.

I have seen quite a few people sit there and click the submit button on a form three or four times saying that it did nothing, when it displayed the red validation text. This box is just that much more 'in their face'. This could have been the reaction from a dev who got tired of support calls from morons who couldn't figure this out on their own.

I certainly don't want every site to start doing this, but I fail to see a true WTF here.

I still think it's not really a WTF.  I was able to enter dummy data and tell them that my email address was fdsa@asdf.com.  It seems about half of the seminars will stream over the internet (supposedly for free).  What's so epic WTF about giving shit out for free?

I did get an error message "First name and last name cannot be the same."  I suppose Miss Kim Kim is going to have some trouble, but she can just enter dummy data and get the content.

    Or were you just trolling?

I did that for a web-based EDI system I made years ago. It highlighted the fields in red and displayed an error dialog with all the appropriate messages (missing, invalid, etc). We never got a support call from it. Sure, there may be power users that will get annoyed by the message box, but it's better than leaving it out and dealing with highly frustrated "stupid" users.

But 'power users' shouldn't make mistakes in the first place, right?

Theoretically.. but who knows if they'd accidentally overlook something, such as if they got distracted on their end. It dealt with EDI, so there's no room for error.

Nope. Impossible. 'Power users' don't make mistakes.

Obviously you have never talked to one, or you would know this.

You and MasterAsshat have some serious ego issues when you think anyone who disagrees with you MUST be a troll. Enjoy your mug indeed.

  •  What i found funny is that one of the links in the responses had the following:

Click register, it gives big red letters saying that you need to enter everything... OK... sure why not... then it goes on to submit to the server ANYWAYS and then later on when the response comes back from an AJAX call it pops up an error claiming that I need to enter all them fields...

    *sigh*

Also, how freaken' many of those systems are there? Seems like a diff page on every link I click but same code base.
