    No, actually. (Well, okay, failing to encode Unicode characters into character entities on a page which has no specified encoding is a bit of an encouragement for poorly written browsers to misrender, but since the charset in XHTML is Unicode that's more a browser rendering engine WTF than a problem with the page.)

    Obviously you're hoping that everyone will say "OMGWTFBBQ there's a comment there why didn't Alex just remove that part LOL!!!1!" but it isn't actually a WTF. Sometimes temporarily commenting things out in HTML is more useful than removing them entirely -- when there are temporary changes, for example. And it's valid XHTML, so this isn't a problem. Somehow I doubt that the extra 0.072 KB per page to leave that line in place are going to bankrupt Alex with hosting charges.
