One neat thing about Progress is if you try to print something that doesn't fit the mask, it's a runtime warning, and what prints is the mask, with all characters replaced with ?.
Annoying but it means stuff like that gets caught.

Oh, ok, I think I get it — the savings are actually negative a dollar, but the polarity symbol was stripped out somewhere between where the value was calculated and when it got printed.
Fun fact: I actually realized that after clicking the notification, but before this thread loaded. I was like “what the duck would @ben_lubar know about that”, then it immediately clicked.

There's no guessing - all prices are correct at once. It might blow your mind, but if you just read the damn plaque, very easy to understand: regular price is $2.99, but if you buy two, you pay $7. No misinformation at all - they just fucked up the bundle price. And 49.9¢ is price per oz. But yes, as @ben_lubar guessed, that's it: a display format specification. Either whoever made that sign can't math, or it was autogenerated by a program that can't show negative savings when you buy in bulk.

Vegan food can taste excellent (if properly done) and have good nutritional value. (My wife and I tried some vegan diet for 30 days and during that time, we even forgot do eat stuff while watching tv.) But I simply can't believe there could be any other possible reason for vegan food to resemble meat/milk food except for marketing reasons. Marketing reasons for intellectually challenged and/or lazy people (which would be the majority).
