These words: not important

  • So my coworker pointed something out in a corporate email yesterday.  The first few letters of every line of the header are missing.  I dug into the html to find out why.  This is what I found:

    <p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:-.75in'>

Here's how I think this happened:

So I was thinking, the first few words of every line aren't that important.  What the most efficient way to make sure they don't show up?

I would post a screenshot, but it would be so filled with black bars that it'd be useless, so here's an implementation.

    <div width="600"><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: -0.75in;"><b><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif";">BTK and dhromed totally suck dick.</span></b></p></div>

BTK and dhromed totally suck dick.

  •  It's true because it's funny.

  •  Ah yes. You'd think one of those dash-thingies wouldn't make much of a difference.

They probably copy/pasted from some word doc in which this looked cool (eek) and then all brain functions halted.

  •  Thanks DaveK.  I totally lol'd.

  •  Who is Ed and why does he suck dick?

  • Wait a minute, CS allows us to demonstrate this?

Then in theory... I could say... for example, write "

Never mind that, I suck donkey balls!

    ", and it might look ... a bit ... like this ....

If e.e. cummings had access to modern typographical tools, it would all look like this.

    And it would be unreadable.

Hey!  You misattributed my fabricated quotation!  How dare you!    *outrage*

  • You can move your text by any offset?

Now people will start guessing the right offsets and move their effuckions into other people's postings. Or the original article. Or into my calendar beside the screen!

I had a quick try at that, but your text gets clipped by the bounds of the enclosing div tag.  I reckon we could make it work by combining this trick with the signature guy hack to get outside the bounds of the post content area; once we're into the space between posts, I think we could probably position stuff all over the screen.
