Oh. You were concerned with there being a space? That doesn't bother me at all. You are a reasonable person. As opposed to @Lorne_Kates who really should be not allowed near a keyboard.

Well, we're OK on that account. He's in Canada, as I understand it.

No. No you do not win at all.
The only way to win that game is to not play.

Did you not see the Google link? Would you rather me find a Sun guide which would have said the same thing?

Are you seri-fucking-ously kidding me?
A language with curly-braced blocks that doesn't ignore whitespace?!
-
Semicolons
The formal grammar uses semicolons "
;
" as terminators in a number of productions. Go programs may omit most of these semicolons using the following two rules:- When the input is broken into tokens, a semicolon is automatically inserted into the token stream immediately after a line's final token if that token is
- an identifier
- an integer, floating-point, imaginary, rune, or string literal
- one of the keywords
break
,continue
,fallthrough
, orreturn
- one of the operators and delimiters
++
,--
,)
,]
, or}
- To allow complex statements to occupy a single line, a semicolon may be omitted before a closing "
)
" or "}
".
-
That seems very complicated. A simpler rule would be to say that lines that need to be continued should have a continuation marker (e.g., a backslash at the end of the line) put in explicitly.

It's Go - are you really trying to make sense of it?!

ASI? Go has fucking ASI?
Remind me again, why should anyone take that language seriously?

..... ASI is literally the devil.

But I agree with you in spirit.
you agree in spirit? are you a ghost then?

Anything that enforces that stupid pattern is the devil. Next thing, you know, you're writing stuff like
}else{ doThings();}
shudder

FTFY
and yes i do. i've seen too many bugs caused by programmers and computers disagreeing what exactly is in the else branch and what isn't.

FTFY
You made it marginally less disgusting, yes. I have seen the original "pattern" as well, though

LITERALLY
i meant it literally.
i believe that the devil literally is the anthropomorphic personification of the concept of Automatic Semicolon Insertion.

I was with @boomzilla until recently but I'm kinda switching...
- JS has ASI, which is evil and I don't want to even give it a chance of existing
- PHP code is something I edit in parallel to JS often, and two coding styles are a pain to keep consistent
- Qt's style guidelines use K&R style, which what I do in JS (difference being that brackets go in the same line for function definitions in JS)
-

don't be shy, we are all very supportive here ... you can come out of the closet now ... did he abuse you in any kind? or did he just chased you from his lawn? you do know that is the way he shows his love?

We're paying quite enough for the one counselor, TYVM, we don't need any more.
you can come out of the closet now
Fuck you, it's warm in the closet!

Big plus for Go for me - their recommended formatting matches my tastes.
