TDWTF CSS WTF?

  • So, I've been seeing this weird layout thing in the forums lately.

What happens is that pages are first rendered in a sort of greenish color scheme, and then "snap back" to boring old grey/blue. What's going on? Is anyone else seeing this? (Opera 9.01, if anyone cares.)

    Here's how it looks: (before/after)

    green WTF blue WTF

  • Methinks it has something to do with the fact that there are 5 separate style-sheets for this page alone. Which might also explain why it takes so long for Bon Echo to render the forum (as Bon Echo doesn't cache well).

Just the way style external style sheets work. They're loaded in order, and a later one overrides a bunch of styles defined in an earlier one. If you don't get the later style sheet "quick", then the first set takes precedence and you get the green stuff.

The sub-dir the CSS files are in is a hint as well:

    	/themes/leanandgreen/....

Yes, but 2 are defined as being "print" media, so they're not going to affect what's on-screen

To be fair, 2 is the bare minimum number of print media stylesheets that a forum needs!

Are people here so dependant on the "print out, place on wooden table, take photo, scan, email, print, read" method of forum browsing that we even need *one*?

Still, it is one of the lesser of the forum WTFs!
