Am I the only person who finds that the side bar on the front page only works sporadically?
It's not working again - and I've just tested with Firefox and Chrome...

Nothing works around here.

We have a front page?!
It's that thing that sometimes is in Open Sans and other times the font fails to load so it just uses the browser default.

That happened to me ages ago, pretty sure he said the same thing. Except, I don't know where to even find the source code in the first place...I guess it's just a joke and I'm out of the loop.

Goddamnit. Even in the future, nothing works.
Seems to me that here in the future more things are broken. Which is not really surprising; it's the natural consequence of technological complication growing to occupy a continuously expanding set of expectations.
As a software developer in 2015, opportunities to understand the behavior of the systems you work on are an increasingly rare luxury. As a consequence, most systems end up being modified and/or maintained by people who not only don't understand them but cannot possibly understand them. The results are predictably unreliable.
Much of my own interaction with consumer IT consists of being astounded and grateful when it actually does work as it's supposed to. I have a $70 phone that can figure out where on Earth it is by doing timing analysis on barely resolvable signals from low earth orbit satellites while driving through concrete canyons inside a metal box, and it doesn't even have visible antennae. As somebody who grew up with the Apple II, this always strikes me as just fucking miraculous. So when it's ten minutes before the night's last appointment slot, which I've just managed to snag at an after-hours clinic in an unfamiliar city, and the phone just freezes hard in the middle of traffic with five minutes of navigation still to complete, I'm not even upset - because this is what I expect from tech as complicated as that.

No, they call them xratai.

You can sometimes spot the issue from the main articles showing as having no comments.

Cue, was it Lewis Black who did the bit about airplane wifi?
