There is a strange lack of connection of so many progressive manias to reality, that it’s hard to know what is real or not. Even for progressives.
There was a major trolling of leftist feminists and Gender Studies types on Twitter, with the hastage “#EndFathersDay.” It was started at 4Chan, but feminists ran with it apparently believing it to be true. Some of the tweets were hysterical — but impossible to tell if part of the group trolling or the leftist feminists who thought it was real.
I remember that one.

I'm pretty sure 4chan has not trolled any feminists, it has only convinced people that they did. The accounts posting the piss photos are fake, in an attempt to convince real ones to do it.
Same thing that happened with the "put your iPhone in your microwave to recharge it" hoax. People didn't actually fall for it, but they fell for the "news" that other people did.
It's meta-trolling.

The earliest tweets in the article are from early on Oct 2, and the 4chan thread is from Oct 2. Without confirming the relative time zones, telling what came first is impossible. There are definitely some real accounts that fell for it, though.

I'm pretty sure that most of the earlier tweets were almost entirely 4channers (as far as I could tell, it was obvious if you clicked the profile) - but the later ones were real people that fell for it.

I searched on the hashtag, first few definitely look like fake accounts (originator actually has 4chan in the twitter handle).

If any real accounts fell for it then it can be said to have been a successful trolling. Doesn't mean it was a hugely successful one, of course.

With the magnitude of the actions performed and the publicity garnered by it I would say the amount of accounts that really fell for it isn't nearly as important.
