Weather simulator WTF

So I spotted this today

With a tempescope, you don't have to open an app to find out if it's going to rain today- just take a glance as you leave the house!
Oh yeah, glancing at an app is so inconvenient.
Seriously though, who the fuck would need this? It's a pretty cool idea, but it looks pretty shit.

It can produce conditions like rain...
A sprinkler in a box? Meh.

clouds...
OK, that's fairly cool.

lightning...
No, that's just a flashing light. What you need is something like this.

and of course sunshine.
Oh, wow! That's amazing! How on earth did you manage to simulate sunshine in your little box? That's magical voodoo!
It also reminds me of this.

Need? no.
Want? eeh... kinda.... that actually looks like a really neat idea!
would I use it? Why? good old Window 1.0 works perfectly well for telling me what the weather is.
-
-
They probably could have called it something else considering it doesn't show the temperature.
-
Tempestas
is Latin forweather
.Also
storm
.
-
TIL. I guess
meteo-
is the Greek prefix?
-
I believe that is the case
-
Now, if it had external barometric and meteorological sensors so it could actually replicate the weather in real time. It would make it such a "need to have" high tech gadget with a ready market for people have have rooms without Windows 1.0 (nod to @accalia) and the MK1 Eyeball is impaired by thick rimmed glasses (nod @ijij) i.e. Mom's Basement.
That would be really cool, or frosty, or snowing, or raining, or snip..... it could make somebody know that they are missing a bright shiny day.
EDIT: LOL at the Post coming in micro seconds after mine. Not because the post is funny OR because of the Poster, but because ppl will buttume things because of the sequence of the posts.
-
I like it. It's too expensive though.
-
Kind of cool, but kind of pointless at the same time.
-
-
I've heard of "quarter lights", but I'm not to sure what a "11/100th light" would be
-
It's the extra amount you have to install in those new-fangled offices that don't have the dropped ceiling acoustic tiles.
-
sounds plausable. No wait they are acoustic tiles......
-

Should we start a gofundme for somebody we know?
-
Sounds like a plan....
-
This better support snow, frost, hail, sandstorms, tornadoes and rainbows. And what's with all this "use your smartphone" crap these days? What's wrong with plain old wifi?
-
OK, I'm actually reading the thing now.
Have a family living far away? You can now share a sky with them.
Why? I couldn't care less if it's pissing it down where I grew up. And if the weather gets really strange, my mum texts me about it anyway.
Everyone loves reading on a rainy day. The app lets you manually set the weather to play, so you can enjoy any weather, whatever it looks like outside.
Even better: I can depress myself even when it's sunny! Yay!
The reason we're making this as a kit is because we'd like the first people to use this gadget to be OK with taking the extra few steps to finish this off, in the spirit of our open source roots.
No it isn't, it's because you're chea-
and it makes the cost to produce about half what it would be
Oh. Well, at least they openly admit it.
-
You and I can't use it anyway. We're godless Windows Phone users, and although in theory all you need is a Bluetooth Low Energy stack (oh by the way, this thing has no independent operation and only functions as commanded by Bluetooth), in practice you need their specific, special iOS/Android app.
-
Meh.
Call me when they've got one that can do a haboob.
-
This post is deleted!
-
oh man, this thing could be great if it crated like, miniature storm systems, tornadoes, et cetera in a box...
-
It would be awesome if it did that. Unfortunately the reality is much more banal. :-(
-
It's nice. It's cool.
It's decoration. The WTF is pretending otherwise.

good old Window 1.0
Which is fortunately fully compatible with Eyeball Mk I
Making a good glass window takes a fairly high level of technology. If you want robustness, go with a rock:
-
Or (in the case of the "stone gone") you are in Liverpool
-
Want.
-
That reminds me of Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler's dragon finding stick (if it's burnt through, you've found the dragon).
-
If you want robustness, go with a rock:
When I was a kid, somebody made and sold a "Weather String" with very similar forecasting abilities, but it came with a lifetime guarantee: "You bought it; it's yours — for the rest of your life."
-
Wouldn't happen these days as the string would be made of a synthetic material that is impervious to weather.
-
-
And if the weather gets really strange, my mum texts me about it anyway.
Hah. Same here. We only live 15 minutes apart.
-
The weather is really strange at the moment. It's sunny outside in Manchester…
-
To quote George Packer, in The New Yorker,
"It suddenly occurred to me that the hottest tech start-ups are solving all the problems of being twenty years old, with cash on hand, because that's who thinks them up."
-
Same here in Nottingham. I think it's the end of days.
-
Seriously though, who the fuck would need this?
People with more money than sense.
I'm following the strategy of acquiring money rather than losing sense, but we'll see...
-
No, that's just a flashing light. What you need is something like this.
Going all Tesla on us, have a like just for that!
-
If your box starts raining blood, it's already too late.
-
It's sunny outside in Manchester…
Same here in Nottingham.
-
It would never take me 15 minutes to walk up the stairs from the basement.
-
If your box starts raining blood, it's
already too latethat time of the month again
